Meet Mia Elderton, a beautiful older girl with a gentle nature. She needs love and trust building after years of living outside in the cold with her health needs ignored and neglected. Mia needs a home that will give her the opportunity to live out her final years feeling loved and cared for.
Mia is good natured around other dogs but needs time to settle into a new home with an existing dog. She is currently living with two dogs.
Mia has a number of health concerns resulting from both neglect and aging. She has some hearing and sight issues which contributes to some anxiety, and she can sometimes become easily startled.
She has mild arthritis in her hips which has been treated with cartrophen injections, and the combination of a good diet, a warm environment and medication has resulted in her condition improving. Lots of tender loving care goes a long way and Mia deserves this and more.
Mia enjoys walks and walks well on a lead and loves going to the dog park, but finds being in a car unsettling so will need to be properly harnessed for her safety and well-being. Mia is confident in using a doggie door and can take herself outside to toilet. Mia sleeps inside.
Given her health, age and previous life experiences, Mia needs a nice quiet home and the love and support of people who are always either home with her or have another quiet older dog to keep her company. She will not cope being left on her own.
She does not need a lot of space to run but she needs a secure backyard with grass. She needs a walk every day and a home that will be able to give her some good final years with trips to the beach and open spaces to walk.
The lucky person who adopts Mia will have the privilege of giving a dog who has had a tough life some happy years in comfort.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.
Medical notes
Mia has mild arthritis in her hips which has been treated with cartrophen injections.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

We look forward to receiving your application.
