About Coda
Coda is visually and hearing impaired. He is not completely blind or deaf, how much sight does he have, unfortunately there is not a Specsavers for dogs, I can tell you that up close, he can climb up on the lounge, use a few stairs, a ramp and is starting to use a doggy door. Same with his hearing up close he seems to respond but at a distant does not.
What does this mean for Coda?
He needs someone who is home more than not, he likes to be near you, at present he is like my own personal stalker, pretty much glued to my side and will quickly go from room to room if he loses track of me. This is understandable as he is at present very confused by his new surroundings.
Coda comes to work with me during the day and is content to sleep in his bed under my desk, so if you work from home he will happily doze the day away. Want a lounge buddy to sit with you whilst you binge watch your latest Netflix obsession he is perfect, he will cuddle up with you and totally invade your personal space.
If you are out in the yard, yes he will follow you around there also. If he is outside for any length of time he will require sunscreen due to his pink nose.
I feel his needy behaviour, will settle once he is in his own home, familiar with his surroundings and knows your routine. (I have a blind dog and a deaf dog and they like their routine). He is in fact doing very well at my house, quickly learning to navigate his new environment.
You will need a safe, secure yard and a safe place to leave him when you go out. He was having a little whinge when I went out, less than a minute, then settled down to sleep, as he has become more settled in his surroundings this is no longer happening.
He could easily adapt to live in a unit or small villa, because even though he is a puppy he is not particularly high energy. He met the neighbours the other day when he was out the front having a bit of a sniff on the grass (he is being taught to walk on a lead) and was very friendly towards them.
A stable home is what is needed so Coda can be can continue to grow in confidence and be settled into a loving home.
Before you apply for Coda, please be sure that you can commit to a lifetime of love for this little guy, his lifetime that is.
Medical notes
Coda is sight and hearing impaired, he also has a low grade luxating patella, that does not require surgery.
