Chewy - worth the wait!
- Meet Chewy - so named because he resembled a tiny tabby Wookie and needed more courage when he was small! Now about 8 months old, Chewy has developed into a playful and energetic cat, who enjoys cuddles, plays well alone, with his carers, and especially with his two older foster cat siblings.
- Chewy eats well (well, everything he's offered!), uses the litter tray diligently, and learned all about grooming from his foster siblings. He knows how to use the cat door to get in and out of the cat run.
- Chewy loves exploring and chasing simple toys like toilet paper rolls, wool dryer balls, and feathers - and his other feline playmates in his foster abode! He's a clever cat, and his best party tricks so far are selecting his own toys out of the toy box and balancing on top of the clothes drying rack (this will probably end as he gets bigger).
- When not running around with his mates or running wild with his imagination, Chewy is happy to relax on top of a cat tree or a chair - especially if it's near a window to look out or a warm fire! He will also snuggle near to the other cats or his humans, on the bed if allowed.
- Chewy took a long time to feel comfortable in his foster home, but has learned from the other cats and his carers that he is safe and loved. At first, he would spend a lot of time hiding and hissing (sneaking out only for food, water, and toileting), but eventually discovered his Wookie bravery and the resulting friendship and affection he now enjoys.
- Chewy is now very happy to accept affection from his humans, adores being stroked with a little grooming brush, and reciprocates with exuberant cuddles and loud purring. Chewy is slowly becoming accustomed to being picked up and moved short distances (he may never come to enjoy being picked up and held, but will tolerate it).
- Chewy is still extremely nervous when visitors come over, and will generally make himself scarce. He will thrive with other cats for companions, and will likely be best suited to a quiet home with adult/s and only older children who understand his comfort will require patience and space at first. He is untested with dogs or children.
- If you can provide Chewy with the feeling of safety that he craves, you will be well rewarded with his cheeky antics and sweet affection.

SAFE Busselton requests that all persons adopting a cat adhere to responsible containment practices. As per the current Cat Laws in WA we encourage people to keep their rescued cat as a permanent indoor cat or with access to a safe cat run. It is no longer desirable to allow your cat to wander onto adjoining properties. Confident cats can also be trained to walk on a harness and lead. We ask that owners be responsible and keep their adopted cat safe at all times so that you will have a long and loving life together. Information on cat enclosures can be found here: https://safe.org.au/catios
SAFE Busselton reserves the right to select adoptive homes based on ""best fit"" for the pet. Although all applications will be considered, being the first application will not necessarily provide an advantage as the adoption committee considers many factors when matching animals to their new home.
