About Kenzie
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE.
NAME: Kenzie
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender.
BREED: Staffordshire Bull Terrier X Jack Russell (and probably lots more!)
Staffordshire Bull Terrier Traits: they are affectionate and loving dogs with family - they are great with children if brought up with them correctly. They love to be with their people and do not cope with being alone, with you they are happy. They are energetic and need a really good walk every day. Early training is essential especially consistent and positive socialisation/exposure to other dogs. Bold, intelligent, reliable, and loyal, this breed is not for novice owners unless you are prepared to put the work in.
Jack Russell Terrier: lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can dig and chew. Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. Jack Russells can be reactive to larger dogs if fearful so careful and sensitive socialisation from a young age is a must.
**********************************************************************************
ASSETS: Confident, sweet, loving and headstrong are words that best describe her! She's a very sweet girl who has a ton of love to give to her new family.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Chewing! Kenzie loves to be chewing things so she's given butcher bones and toys to chew to keep her busy - but she is still a pup after all and a Staffordshire too! She also loves to run around the park with her brother and dig in the garden. Especially while she's a pup she won't suit a family who loves to keep a pristine lawn!
ENDEARING FEATURES: She has a beautiful personality and is very affectionate and gentle, she especially loves tummy rubs and cuddles. She loves to sleep on either your chest, arm or leg. She has a funny waddle when she's running around like she wants to go faster but her little legs won't allow her to. She also has a big smile and a very long tongue, so be prepared for face licks!
OTHER ANIMALS: Kenzie can bark at strange dogs but she's just unsure. She does however make friends pretty quickly after gentle introduction and plays well once she's comfortable with them and off the lead. Gentle socialisation needs to be continued with her new owner. When she has been fostered as an only dog she socialises well and is more focused on her carer. She takes a bit too much interest in smaller animals like cats and rabbits so will need a dog-only home.
GENERAL INFO: Kenzie needs some training with walking on the lead as she will tug and pull at first. She is housetrained and knows some commands but will benefit greatly from ongoing training, especially in a group where she can continue to relax around other dogs. She barks at strange noises when she's at home and if someone knocks at the door. Kenzie and her brother Maverick sleep in a dog crate together and they love the security of it - it is their safe space and can be continued in their new home. Her recall is improving as she tends to want to stay close to her human and she is well behaved in the car.
ESSENTIALS for Kenzie:
** A dog-experienced, loving home where someone is there for a good part of the day or can take her with them when going out. She and her brother Maverick are in care together with a full time worker but when bored they will dig and chew so more human company is better for her. She could live with a similar aged dog to play with but would be just as happy as the only furball receiving all the attention and cuddles.
** An owner who will continue to train her and build on the great progress she has made in care - classes where she can socialize and relax around other dogs when on lead would be of great benefit to her.
** She needs good daily exercise, but also lots of interactivity with her person is very important to her such as car rides and being involved in family activities.
** Kenzie needs a well fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore. Remember at the moment she is a digger!
** Kenzie loves to be with her people so needs to be allowed inside the home and to sleep inside at night.
Kenzie would go best in a home with dog savvy children over 10 years of age who will be respectful and read her signals when she wants her own space.
