About Peggy
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE.
NAME: Peggy
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound.
BREED: German Shepherd x American Staffordshire Terrier
BREED TRAITS: The German Shepherd was originally bred to herd flocks all day, is intelligent and makes a great working dog. He is high energy and needs a lot of activity/exercise, or may chew and bark; obedience training is a must. They make devoted family pets and protectors so early exposure/socialisation will make them more accepting of different people and circumstances. They love to be with their humans so can become anxious if left for long periods. They have quite a high prey drive.
American Staffordshire Terriers are quite high energy, playful, affectionate and intelligent but do require training as they can be headstrong. They are very social with adults and children and are extremely loyal but can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods. Their sociability with dogs is a facet that needs work from an early age.
ASSETS: Peggy is timid or a little shy initially around men but once she’s comfortable in your company she’s super friendly, affectionate, eager to please and very sweet! Peggy hasn’t had the best start in life but with some gentle training, patience and a ton of love she’ll be a great companion to her new owner.
FAVOURITE THINGS People, belly rubs and soft cuddly toys! Peggy loves to be near her special person and is always happy to see you. She also likes to get out and about for walks or car rides and is very easygoing once she’s comfortable with you. She absolutely loves being around other dogs and will play for hours with them. She absolutely loves running and is very quick, people have asked before if there is any greyhound in her breed mix!
ENDEARING FEATURES: That face! She’s an absolute delight to have around, sheds very little hair and her coat is the loveliest grey brindle.
OTHER ANIMALS: Peggy loves to play with friendly, playful dogs and get son well with the other dogs in her foster home.. She takes a bit too much interest in smaller animals like cats and rabbits so will need a dog-only home.
GENERAL INFO: Peggy walks well with a harness.. She is mostly housetrained but does still have the odd accident when left inside alone. She rarely barks but isn’t a fan of being left for a long period. She knows some commands and would benefit greatly from ongoing training. Peggy has had irritated skin that we think is related to spending time on grass. This is currently managed by a cream and some medication. Her carer has a paved yard which helps greatly to control any allergic response.
ESSENTIALS for Peggy:
** A dog-experienced, loving home where someone is home more often than not or can take her out with them and involve her in family activities. She would love a home with another youngish friendly dog.
** An owner who will continue to train her and build on the progress she has made in care – classes would be excellent for Peggy where she can learn and grow confidence in a safe environment.
** She needs good daily exercise, and fun interactions with her person.
** Peggy needs a high fenced, secure yard and due to her response to grass would be better kept in a paved area or with fake turf.
** Peggy loves to be with her person so needs to be allowed inside the home and to sleep inside at night.
Peggy has not been tested with children but we have been told that she did live with older children in her previous home so this could be considered dependent on experience.
If Peggy sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
