About Summer
Summer (a 1 year old miniature Daschund, weighing 5 kilos), and her friend Dora (Chihuahua x Jack Russell) were surrendered together by a backyard breeder.
Because Summer has a couple of conformation faults (one foot turns out more than the other and she has an underbite) she was classed as “pet quality” (a cull in other words) by the breeder, so she was surrendered to us. These minor faults have been vet checked and won’t affect her agility, eating ability or lifespan. Nor do they detract from her being deserving of a loving family and her ability to be a loving and fun companion.
Technically Summer isn’t housetrained, having lived in outside runs since birth, however she runs in and out of our home with our own 6 small dogs, with very few accidents. Much as we would like to, we simply don’t have the foster carers to provide one on one training in this part of the world, but we can’t turn our backs on dogs in need just because we can’t supply a dedicated foster carer for each and every dog.
Summer is a little standoffish when meeting new people (like many Daschunds) but quickly warms to you. She’s a bit naughty when it comes to our cats and she and Dora like to chase them, but not in an aggressive way. I feel that if Summer was adopted by a family with another dog who isn’t interested in chasing the cat, she would quickly learn that it’s not the done thing.
She’s a good little girl in her crate in the car.
Summer is different to the rest of our fluffy bunch of adored misfits and in different circumstances, she’d be a “foster fail” and would slot in perfectly in our home (and king size bed!)
We are located at Moree NSW (a 6-7 hour drive from Sydney) and you would need to make your own arrangements to collect her.
Medical notes
Microchipped, fully vaccinated and desexed.
Adoption details
Please express your interest by sending an email through PetRescue.
Tell us about the home and lifestyle you can offer Summer.
We are interested in your family situation (who is in your family) their work/study hours, how long the dog would be left alone during a typical week.
What you can offer a dog in terms of activities, outings and training.
If you have other pets - in most cases we look favourably on a home with an existing dog or the possibility of adding another dog at a later stage (the exception would be if the dog being rehomed is not so good with other dogs).
Whether the dog will be welcome inside, where the dog will sleep etc.
