About Max
"Confident, energetic and super smart" is how Max's foster carer describes this handsome short-haired male Dutch Shepherd mix. He was born around 22 August 2021 and currently weighs 20 kgs.
The Dutch Shepherd is prized for his intelligence and eagerness to learn. They love having a job to do and excel at obedience and agility competitions. They also make great companions and family dogs, though they need an active environment that will keep them mentally and physically stimulated.
Max is a people-focused dog. He loves all humans and is great with children, as you can see from the photos.
He's keen to learn, eager to please and well-mannered. He knows how to sit, shake, do high-fives with both paws, and drop on command - and is learning more all the time. Check out the last video where his foster Dad is teaching him a new trick. He is a super fast learner.
He walks quite well on a lead and, once bonded, his recall is excellent.
Max is great with other dogs and especially enjoys vigorous play with like-minded dogs.
True to his breed, he is an athletic and strong dog with a personality to match. He will do best in the home of a confident and experienced owner who can demonstrate pack leadership.
Max wants to be around his pack leader almost all the time, so is ideally suited to a home where that need can be met. He also needs a compatible canine playmate because he loves to play and romp in the back yard.
The Dutch Shepherd is adept at climbing fences and Max is no exception, but he's only tempted to do so if left at home alone.
He lives in a private foster home in Warwick, Queensland and his adoption fee is $550. He is desexed, vaccinated and microchipped.
If you are interested in meeting Max, please complete the online application form at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/ and ensure you include photos of your yard and fencing.
