Sadly Maggie had a pretty crappy start to life and was left in a backyard with no training or socialization on the big world until she came to us from a pound
Maggie is a sweet-natured, intelligent and energetic pup who is looking for a best friend. She loves to be around people and wants to be a part of your day. She’s a loyal, beautiful soul and her future family will be so lucky to have her around.
While she’s been in care she has developed strong and loving relationships with her carers and neighbors. She will bond closely with her new owner and want to be a part of their everyday life.
Its critical that her new owner will take the time and patience she needs to train her properly. She also needs either the activities or the space to use her energy. She may enjoy the company of another dog but will need to meet them and be comfortable with them. She will be best placed in a household with only adults or older children.
Obedience:
Maggie appears to have had little training but given her age and being an intelligent girl, she will train easily. She can be a little jumpy so needs to be supervised around young or old people until trained, but is learning quickly that it's not allowed. Maggie needs a family who has patience to train her. She walks on the lead but has not learned to walk along a path, so she will need to be taught. She likes her walks but can get very excited if there are lots of noises and other people/dogs around. She is not ready for off-leash parks but will be once trained. She is toilet trained when she has access to the outside.
Enrichment:
Maggie is VERY energetic and must be with a family who either has a large yard for her to play, or an owner who is very active and is willing to have her come along to their activities (when she’s trained, she would be a perfect companion to a cyclist or runner during their exercise, or someone who can take her to work with them). She loves squeaky toys the most. Although slightly too big to be a true lap dog, she loves to curl up on your lap and keep you warm while you work.
Socialization:
It seems that Maggie hasn’t met many dogs or cats in her life before coming into care, so will need slow and careful socialization. She has met lots of people and dogs on her walks and is getting the hang of saying a friendly hello. She will need a bit more time and training before she can interact off lead. She can sometimes be a little timid and protective when meeting new people but with some reassurance, does settle. She will need an owner who has the patience to work with her on this.
Food:
Maggie eats well and has been fed Ivory Coast dry food. Maggie loves treats/food so is very good motivated , which assists with her training and obedience.
Cars:
Mags travels very well in the car and has been on a few trips with no issues. She likes to be with people so an appropriate car-harness or area of the car that is secure is a must.
Sleeping:
Maggie sleeps well through the night. She has been sleeping inside in a crate while in care without a problem.
