About Chewy
Chewy is a male black Labrador x Golden Retriever raised and trained in the Assistance Dogs Australia program. He is 16 months old, he is desexed and is looking for his forever home!
Chewy is a lovable and affectionate boy. He is very playful, energetic and happy. He is a highly intelligent and motivated dog, so he requires mental and physical stimulation. Chewy enjoys training and being challenged so proper mental stimulation will further help him learn and maintain the cues that he has learnt so far.
Although Chewy has shown some great qualities during his time in the Assistance Dogs Australia training program, we have decided that he is not suitable to be placed as an Assistance Dog. Chewy does suffer from some anxiety. He also has high arousal levels and at times he struggles to recover. This can present as Chewy lunging and jumping on his handler in excitement. For these reasons he would be better suited to being a pet.
All Assistance Dogs are accustomed to spending most of their time with humans so Chewy’s ideal person or family would spend a lot of time at home with him. He also thrives on routine and would love to go to someone who leads an active lifestyle.
Chewy is social with other dogs. If there is another dog in the home he goes to, we would like Chewy to meet them. Chewy needs to be walked daily and would love to have a yard to play in.
Chewy is a healthy young dog. Vaccinations and parasite protection have been kept up to date. If you think Chewy could be the right dog for you or you have any further questions, please email Mel at mwatson@assistancedogs.org.au so that I can pass on an application form for you to complete.
