About Esmeralda
Esmeralda is timid, but sweet. She will need a lot of T.L.C. and patience in her new home. We are unsure of her past, but she has not had a lot of socialisation with people or pets. I feel Esmeralda would be best suited to a quiet home as a busy household would be very overwhelming for her. It will take some time and effort for her to learn to trust.
Esmeralda came into care underweight and malnourished. She suffers from an upper respiratory and eye infection likely due to cat flu (specifically Feline Herpes Virus) which she is currently undergoing treatment. I am medicating her twice a day, and although it cannot be enjoyable for her, she tolerates it very well. She even purrs and has a cuddle when we are done. Once a cat is infected, it may become a lifelong disease carrier. However, many show no/minimal signs and don't shed the virus meaning they are low risk to other cats. During periods of stress or if immunosuppressed, they may intermittently shed the virus, develop mild signs, or infect other at-risk cats (e.g kittens, unvaccinated cats, immunosuppressed). Esmeralda has been fully vaccinated against cat flu to help reduce her signs and risk of shedding the virus. She could be housed with other vaccinated cats. Esmeralda was also heavily matted and needed to be clipped entirely. However, don't be deterred by her new look; they say it's only two weeks between a good and bad haircut! As her condition improves, I will continue to update her profile.

Adoption details
Thank you for your interest in a rescue cat! They can make the most wonderful friends and family members.
Our rescue cats have varied histories and stories and as such they each require a different home environment, we ask prospective adopters a series of questions aimed at making the perfect match so please dont be offended when asked questions. We do not adopt to a first in first serve basis and only adopt to the most suitable home possible. If you are outside Ballarat we ask that you make time to have a 30 minute video-chat with us and the kitty you are interested in so we can get to know you a little better and you can see the kitty in its home environment before coming up to Ballarat to adopt, if you are local then we hold a meet and greet at the foster home of the kitty. We only offer video chats and meet and greets to the most suitable homes.
All of our cats at Cat Lovers Ballarat are rehomed as strictly INDOOR ONLY cats and we ask that all prospective adopters only apply if they are capable and comfortable with this.
Please have patience with us as we go through all applications and make our decisions to move onto phase 2 and offer meet and greets, this can take days and sometimes a week to go through, you will be contacted whether you are successful or not.
Thank you again for your interest in one of our rescue cats!
