About Hughie
************** PLEASE APPLY AT www.gsrv.com.au ****************************
Hughie is a sweet 9-month-old male German Shepherd who find himself looking for a new home.
Hughie is full of energy and is very playful, he will need an active family who will provide him with plenty of stimulation and enrichment to keep him busy and out of mischief. Hughie knows his basic commands but will need to attend obedience training so that he can continue to work on his manners. Hughie needs an owner that has experience with young, boisterous German Shepherds, someone who will set boundaries with him and give him clear feedback so that he understands rules and what is expected of him.
Hughie has been raised in a home with young children, but as he is still a boisterous pup, he can still get very over-excited and jumpy around them. For this reason, Hughie would be suited to a home where everyone is over the age of 8 years old.
Hughie is lacking exposure to the outside world and becomes very over-stimulated and reactive when out walking. Hughie needs to be exercised in a quiet area where he can be slowly exposed to loud noises, traffic, people and other animals, he needs to start at a distance and slowly work up to feeling comfortable being a part of the big wide world. Ideally, Hughie would live in a rural area or somewhere not too built up so that he can easily have distance between himself and the things that over-stimulate him. Hughie will bark and lunge at other dogs when he sees them, he will need an owner who is experienced with dog reactivity, someone who is prepared to socialise and work on Hughie's socialisation and exposure over time. Hughie has never been taught how to walk nicely on lead, he currently pulls a lot and will need to go back to basics to learn how to walk nicely with his humans.
For now, Hughie will need to be the only dog in his new home whilst he learns how to appropriately interact with other dogs and learns some doggy manners. Hughie loves to chase the cat in his current home and has a high drive, he is best suited to a home without cats or other small animals.
Hughie is extremely cuddly and affectionate; he craves the attention of his humans and desperately wants to be the centre of attention in his new family. Hughie would love nothing more than to play with his humans all day and to go on adventures together, he must be allowed inside with his family and will enjoy cuddling up on the couch once playtime is over.

Adoption details
We offer a 'Foster to Adopt' program. This means that the dog will go to live with their adoptive family for 4 weeks to ensure it is the perfect match for both the dog and new family. After the 4 weeks is complete, if all has gone well, the adoption is formalised and your new doggy companion is officially yours!
If you are interested in adopting from us, we ask that you fill out the Adoption Application form on our website (via the link provided below) with as much detail as possible, including the name of the dog you are interested in.
We do not rehome female dogs to a home where there is an existing female dog. Whilst there are always exceptions, it is generally unwise to have two females together; two males can sort it out, a male and a female can sort it out, but when two females fight, the results can be disastrous. For this reason, following the advice from numerous Veterinary behaviourists, as well as our own experience from the last eight years, we do not rehome females into homes with other female dogs.
All of our dogs are de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated
