About Dove
Dove is a sweet and cuddly female chocolate Labrador Retriever raised in the Assistance Dogs Australia program. She is 11 months old, desexed and looking for her forever home!
Dove is confident, loves a swim and loves to explore while on lead on bush walks. If she gets distracted by her surroundings you can bring her back to focus without too much effort. She loves to play and loves to cuddle up with her humans.
Dove would suit a home where someone is at home most of the time as our dogs are used to spending their time with people. She would benefit from going to someone who has good knowledge of dog behaviour so that they can manage her sensitivities and behaviour. She needs someone who is willing to spend time continuing her training and giving her the physical and mental stimulation that she needs. She has been known to jump up if excited but has been improving with this. She may also get excited if new dogs or people get too close to her while on a walk and she may pull towards them. She has been living with another dog but if there is a dog in her new home, she will have to be introduced to them to make sure they get along.
Dove will benefit from going to a clean and tidy home as she has been known to eat items/food around the home and out and about. She has been improving with this, but her new owners will still need to be mindful of this and be willing to continue working on this.
Dove has some medical needs that her new family will need to be aware of and consider carefully before applying to adopt her. She has atopic dermatitis that is being managed and is currently under control but may still require treatment in the future. She also has a confirmed diagnosis of bee anaphylaxis. This requires that an EpiPen is always available to be used in case she is stung.
Dove’s vaccinations and parasite protection have been kept up to date. If you think Dove could be the right dog for you or you have any further questions, please email Mel at mwatson@assistancedogs.org.au so that I can pass on an application form for you to complete.
