❤️Forever Shy❤️
So Shy July may be over but our more reclusive feline friends are still searching for their happily ever after.
During July, we posted about cats we call 'forever shy.'
Many of the nervous cats who come into our care have not had positive experiences with people, or just haven't had ANY experiences with people.
Over time, many of these beautiful babies blossom and their personalities grow.
There are so many wonderful success stories of cats who go from afraid and withdrawn, to friendly and cuddly.
These are joyful stories and we are so happy to see so many cats flourish.
But, progress and growth looks different for every cat just like it does for all of us in our lives!
There are some cats who are unlikely to ever become cuddly, or lap cats.
We don't want the weight of those expectations to weigh on them.
Lorient is an example (a particularly stunning example!)
She came from a colony of stray cats who were living outdoors and experiencing minimal human contact.
Many generations of this colony existed. Some of her family members were social but most were not. They all expressed themselves in different ways.
Lorient watches the world closely. She's extremely cautious and fearful. She hisses at anyone who approaches and will strike out if you get too close - though she is only doing so in fear and self defence.
Lorient has definitely improved while in our care.
We know that she has lots more growth to do. We strongly believe that once she is introduced to the right home environment, she will be increasingly comfortable around people. She doesn't want to hurt anyone and will definitely give you plenty of space unless you get in her face.
She will be more comfortable in a bigger space where she doesn't feel trapped and cornered.
Initially in a new place, Lorient is going to be stressed and scared. That goes without saying. But we wholeheartedly believe that it will be worth it in the long run.
Lorient might never sit on your lap or let you cuddle her. She may take years to become comfortable approaching you.
But we believe she can be happy anyway.
There is happiness to be found sitting in a patch of sunlight or by a warm heater.
It can be found playing with a cat toy or discarded piece of string while she thinks you're not watching.
Lorient is social with other cats and we believe she can find great joy making friends with existing felines in your home.
She doesn't strictly need a home that is perpetually quiet and still.
We have seen ourselves, cats like her living with kids and dogs and busyness.
All she needs is respect, time and understanding. The opportunity to be herself without pressure or judgement.
What we all need, really.
Lorient has now been desexed, microchipped and vaccinated. She's roughly 15 months old. She has been in our care for nearly 5 of those months and we'd love to see her in a home of her own.
If you would like to offer a second chance to a very beautiful kitty, please please reach out.
We're happy to answer any questions you have and support you through the process.
