Dukie boy found himself out in Cobar pound alongside many other greyhounds that desperately needed to find somewhere to go. Being a big black male hound, I knew I couldn’t leave him there. When Duke arrived at the Sanctuary it was obvious that he was an incredibly gentle and sweet big boy. He needed to be desexed so was kept away from the other hounds, where he didn’t show any signs of separation anxiety at all.
Duke is a super gentle (seriously SO gentle!) big boy who loves to chase a ball, play games with toys or just sleep on the couch with you. Duke has met other breeds of dogs and we’ve had no issues at all, he has politely walked past many little dogs out and about and hasn’t shown any prey drive towards them. He is also very smart! He has already taught himself how to use the doggy door and he is quickly learning ‘sit’ and ‘on your bed’ etc at his foster home.
While Duke has quite a low prey drive overall, he has been cat tested and unfortunately is not cat friendly.
He would be suited to almost any housing situation so long as he gets plenty of walkies. Duke is house trained and I haven’t ever had any accidents in the house with him. Duke is not yet a Greenhound but we believe he would pass the test with flying colours. He will need to remain on his lead at all times while out as he doesn’t have a recall yet and being a greyhound can zoom off in a flash. I would recommend avoiding dog parks in the early days of him adjusting to his new family and to avoid him getting too overwhelmed.
If you’re looking for a big gentle giant who has impeccable leash manners, is happy to go for a walk or stay in and snuggle, and is FULL of love, Dukie is your guy. And besides, who can resist those big brown eyes!
If you think you can give Dukie the most perfect of homes please complete an application form, Duke is such a gentle boy, its about time we found Duke his special place in this big world where he can be adored and kept safe just as he deserves.
