About Penny (& Florence)
Snuggle scope: We are massive attention seekers (especially Flo)! We both love to a bit of lap time snuggle up on the bed with you. We don’t mind being picked up for quick cuddle either once we know and trust you. We also love a bit of a chat!
Confidence Assessment: We are extremely shy around new people, and it can take us a while to feel comfortable and safe. Once we get there though we love to be the centre of attention!
Cat scope: We really like other cats! If they accept us we're happy to snuggle and play with them like they're our own family. As long as we have each other though we’ll be fine.
Dog scope: Dogs are ok, as long as they're friendly and calm.
Child scope: Small humans are scary! Maybe they're OK if calm and quiet, but we haven't met any like that yet!
Adoption Fee: $350 total for Florence and Penny (i.e fee for both, not each)
ABOUT
Can you believe these 2 stunning, emerald-eyed beauties were born and raised "barn cats?!" Florence and Penelope are littermate sisters, and the absolute best of friends. They grew up together on a horse and chicken farm where they faced many dangers in their environment; snakes, ticks, and unfriendly humans to mention a few. To add to their many vulnerabilities, these 2 precious little ladies both fell pregnant before turning 1. Teenage pregnancies in cats always carry higher risks than normal, and sadly these 2 did not escape unscathed. Firstly, Florence sadly lost 2 of 4 kittens very early, then Penny struggled to feed hers upon delivery a week or so later. It was feared she too would lose her babies. However, these 2 beauties brought their babies together to share responsibilities, even co-nursing each other’s kittens. Thankfully all of Penny’s babies pulled though and we were able to rescue them all.
The reasons for their struggles were clear when Florence and Penny were first brought into care. They were both very small girls, completely depleted physically, and were fighting worms and fleas. Penny’s bubs were clearly saved in the nick of time, as they were very scrawny and had eye infections. Poor Penny was super stressed out and terrified of her new environment, but never missed a beat in trying to care for her babies. Florence met the change with a little more confidence, and it was only a matter of hours before she was wanting a bit of attention. Although Penny avoided all human contact for a week or so, she eventually took the lead from her sister and realised that this new human wasn't so bad. Soon she was out exploring and happily settling in. I think both mums became thankful for their creature comforts and the security of a house, as neither of them made any efforts to escape, nor have they ever had problems with using litter! Another thing quickly evident about these girls was how full of love this feline family was, between adults and kittens alike. They have been an absolute pleasure to care for.
Over the few months of watching the kittens grow into confident, affectionate young cats, Penny's trust and confidence likewise grew. This once shy, fearful little girl who used to run and hide at even the slightest hint of her carer's presence actually started to seek out attention! Starting first with just sitting watching nearby, or eating calmly. Then came play, and finally a pat. Next thing her carer knew, Penny was on the end of the bed every night purring away. Now, after 5mths in care, she seeks out affection, even chattering for pats. Flo is no different, she likewise loves attention, and will paw or pat her carer for attention. She’ll all loves to curl up in the crook of her carer’s arm in bed at night and serenade her to sleep with purrs. Both girls are also very entertaining as they love to play!! They love to run around the house crazy and play with whatever toy they can find, or one of the other cats.
Due to their background and bond Florence and Penny are inseparable. These lovely girls need a home together where they will be given the love and patience they need to adjust and feel safe and comfortable, particularly given Penny’s anxious nature. It may take quite some time for Penny, but no doubt with her sister Florence by her side they will thrive.
