NAME: Maverick

BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender.

BREED: Staffordshire Bull Terrier X

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Traits: they are affectionate and loving dogs with family - known as Nanny dogs they are great with children if brought up with them correctly. They love to be with their people and do not cope with being alone, with you they are happy, therefore they are not outside dogs. They are energetic and need a really good work out every day. Early training is essential with this breed especially consistent and positive socialisation/exposure to other dogs. Bold, intelligent, reliable, and loyal, this breed is not for novice owners unless you are prepared to put the work in.

ASSETS: Easy going, friendly, sweet, playful, beautiful, loving and mellow pretty much sums Maverick up. He has as a ton of love to give and longs for tummy rubs and attention.

FAVOURITE THINGS: He loves to snuggle with his person. He loves to play with the other dog in his foster home and is a bit goofy and a bit of a bull in a china shop so needs a rough and tumble fur friend. He does like to have lots of attention and will push in if any of the other dogs get pats and he misses out! Maverick also like most young dogs loves to chew so is given some butcher bones and lots of hard toys by his foster carer to keep him busy.

ENDEARING FEATURES: He really loves to be close to you when you're relaxing on the couch, even if it means he's sitting on your head. He's a really handsome, fun dog and has an amazing character as he is both charming and cheeky all at the same time!

OTHER ANIMALS: Maverick loves to play with other friendly dogs and really likes having a fur buddy at home but could do well as an only dog if he got loads of attention and was the centre of the home. He takes a bit too much interest in smaller animals like cats and rabbits so will need a dog-only home.

GENERAL INFO: Maverick has a halti head collar that he uses when out and about and walks beautifully with it. He barks to get attention, or if someone is at the door. He could live with a full time worker if he has a fur buddy or gets good exercise and attention. He would make a great best buddy/companion for an active person as he is an active boy who loves the beach and swimming or exploring in bushland and always stays close. His recall is good unless there is a bird to chase so work in this area is needed!

ESSENTIALS for Maverick

** A dog-experienced, loving home where he has a young, similar sized, playful dog to live with or he gets lots of attention and exercise.

** An owner who will continue to train him and build on the great progress he has made in care.

** He needs good daily exercise, so a couple of walks a day would be good or to mix up with training and family activities.

** Maverick needs a high fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.

** Maverick loves to be with his people so needs to be allowed inside the home and to sleep inside at night. He would love to be able to sleep with his person if allowed!!

Maverick would settle well in a family home with dog savvy children over 10 years old - he is very loving and sweet.
