Trigger

This striking and happy horse of a dog will just melt your hearts! Trigger, meet everyone! Everyone meet Trigger! This gorgeous, young dude is just under 3 years old and absolutely loves the company of people and other confident dogs.

His loving foster says that he is quick to find and settle into the comfiest spot in any home that he visits and with patience is growing to be a fun, playful and adventurous dog. He also loves his walks (especially ones around creeks), squeaky plushie toys, human furniture especially the bed, and playing with other confident, self-assured dogs.

Trigger’s foster family have been working with him on training around “touch”, “down” and “stay”, and have found that he is a very clever boy with the propensity to learn a lot more. Surprisingly, Trigger is also quite nimble for his big greyhound size and has never knocked over a glass or run into a mirror (a feat that many a grown human still struggle to achieve)! He is also naturally polite on-leash but as he is still quite young, will definitely benefit from more lead-based training; something that his wonderful forever home will be happy to continue with the support from Amazing Greys.

Trigger has rarely barked while in the care of his foster and is turning out to be a super fun, chill and affectionate young man. As he is still young, he would benefit from more play time in his day or a household with another dog that he can run with. While friendly with children when on leash and even allows pats, it’s best that any kids in his forever home are mature enough to understand and navigate around him. Trigger also has a bit of sleep startle (an unsurprisingly common trait for rescued greyhounds), and some handling sensitivity on one of his ears, so for this reason needs his humans to handle his ears with gentleness, and to leave him be when he has settled into his bed for a snooze. Amazing Greys has plenty of resources to share with his forever home to help ensure that Trigger can be set up for success in any space. Speaking of which, Trigger been on overnight adventures to friend's places, people-gatherings, work trips and so long as he has his dog bed, is a breeze to take around. He prefers routine but has adapted well to schedule changes and spontaneous adventures (with treats and extra attention).

In terms of socialising with dogs at home, Trigger is comfortable setting boundaries and will communicate them using growls – a common form of communication for greyhounds – after which he treats the dogs with either indifference or playfulness. As he is a greyhound, Trigger does have some chase and catch behaviour (again not uncommon for rescued ex-racing greyhounds) so won’t suit homes with small dogs and animals, and any interactions with smaller dog breeds will need to be monitored. His also known to be a bit of a counter surfing and will try his luck if the food is on the edge of the table, much like a little child, so it’s best to keep any delicious food out of reach. Trigger currently lives in a shared house with his foster carer and is happy to be home alone for 4-6 hours a day, with his main guardian away daily for 8 hours a day on weekdays. He is happy as long as he gets checked up on a couple of times a day by his foster’s housemates, when they get home. Trigger is also a very gentle and docile dog, and even puts up with his humans brushing his teeth (a definitely surprising and positive trait)!

An easy, healthy, quiet and playful dog, Trigger will make a beautiful member for any household, so if you have:

• Humans that can be home within 4-6 hours of being out
• No cats or “pocket pets” such as rats, guinea pigs, rabbits
