Clovis is a handsome Staffy cross, full of love and cuddles, and approximately 18 months old. Be prepared to be stopped in the street and told how handsome he is!
He’s still in his puppy stage and loves to go for walks, runs in the park (he’s very fast and loves to run with the greyhounds( and to play with other four-legged friends. He is extremely friendly with other dogs he meets on our walks and is learning how to say hello without being clumsy.
Clovis currently resides with a smaller 5 year old male Staffy cross and a 12 month old small Jack Russell Staffy x, whom he is growing very attached to. They often play tug of war with an old sock or cuddle together on their bed or our couch. He does love a squeaky toy, but the squeak doesn’t last long! Whilst he loves a good play time, he is also content to just cuddle up on his bed (or the couch) or in the sun with his foster brother and nap the afternoon away.
He has not shown any signs of resource or toy guarding. He sits and waits for his food until we say OK.
We don’t believe he has ever walked on a lead before and will require additional training as he tends to swerve back and forth and pull, and being 23kgs, you will need to be strong. That said, Clovis has been going to basic dog school and is learning his commands and is a quick learner. He can now sit and stay and is walking much better on the lead (but does need more training for lead walking). A commitment to his ongoing training will establish a quick bond with him and will help Clovis be the best dog he can be.
We have left Clovis home with his foster brother for several hours and they are fine being left alone. Clovis will whimper a little at the door but then will happily settle. We have left him alone on his own for a little bit and he was fine. But we haven’t left him alone for a full day on his own. Did we mention he’s house trained too which is a bonus!
He is a good eater and takes treats ever so gently from your fingers. He really is the gentlest dog we have ever seen.
Clovis is a real snuggle bunny. He thinks he’s a lap dog and will try to get on the couch, and into your lap. When he does this, he often then rests his head on your shoulder and gives you hugs. Honestly the dog just wants to cuddle 24/7.
Given the opportunity he would prefer to sleep on your bed, but we have made him get down and sleep on his own bed or with his foster brother. Often in the night he will sneak up and crawl into bed with us, but over time this is happening less frequently and he is staying in his bed until its time for walkies!
The best home for Clovis could have teenage children and an older placid smaller dog. We do not feel he would suit a home with another large dog. We also feel he could be an only dog. If you’re a runner, he’s your man!
The most important criteria is a commitment to ongoing training and an understanding that Clovis can be playful because he’s still a big puppy. Whilst we live in a balcony and he seems quite happy, he does need to burn off his puppy energy so a big back yard or walks would be ideal.
