Una (Unakite)

Unakite (Una for short) is a very energetic, social boy who loves dogs, people, attention *Hello lots of pats please*, laying in the sun, his goose toy, zoomies, and roaching in the morning!

Una has adjusted very well to life as a pet and has been working hard on building his repertoire of cues - so far all with a high, but not perfect success rate - such as 'come', 'stay' & 'cross', 'sit' (he does this very well on his bed), 'out' (to get him out of the kitchen), 'up' (to get in the car, which he loves!) and 'on your bed' which is a command he has just begun to learn but hasn't mastered yet.

He is a fast learner and has picked up new habits (like adjusting to toilet training) in a very short period of time!

His foster carers say that he is friendly, sweet, curious, good-natured and adventurous, he has excellent walking manners, is very affectionate and patient.

Speaking of walks, much like many of us with our morning coffee - Una can become a little bit destructive without his morning walk. So best to keep to a routine and burn some of that energy before heading off for the day! Confidence while walking has improved greatly though he does tends to freeze at construction noise and loud vehicles (fair!) and if he thinks you should be going a different direction, or wants to meet a dog that is *not quite* close enough (also fair!).

Una can be possessive of things he has grabbed and will vocalise that he doesn't want to give it up if you approach. 'Trading up' these high value treasures for treats is a work in progress.

~Counter~ Surf's up baby if something of interest is within reach - so keeping things tidy when his humans aren’t around is the name of the game. Una has been learning fast that the kitchen is out of bounds when his humans are cooking or preparing food (*cue the 'out' command he's been working hard on!*).

Una still has a healthy dislike of the sound of wheelie bins and toilets flushing (especially if he can’t see the toilet) and a very occasional penchant for chewing wooden things (only once or twice) such as wood from the fireplace basket and the arm of a chair. He much prefers to be close to his human/s, finding comfort sleeping in the same room as them and knows the difference between your bed and his.. and if he does try for a cheeky upgrade will hop off if asked.

This deep love of his people means Una has displayed some separation anxiety but this has greatly improved and he can now be left alone for up to 5 hours!

Una's ideal forever home and family is one with time to spare and love to give, ideally in a quieter suburb (though would adjust to a louder area) with a yard as he loves the freedom of being outdoors to run and explore on his own.

Una needs a lot of social time and as mentioned above, loves dogs (and has experienced hanging with many different breeds big and small while in foster) so pending an introduction and some adjustment - a home with an existing dog would be great for him - especially if you will be out during the day.

As Una has not spent time with children in foster care he is best suited to a no child home.
