About Charlie
Charlie is a handsome young man, only 15 months old, looking for his forever home. He is a very headstrong boy still finding his place. He has learnt to walk nicely on a head halti under small distraction and has some very basic obedience…when he’s in the mood. Charlie has proven to be too much for his current owners who love him dearly but recognise that they are not able to give him the intense training and strong leadership required to ensure he develops into a well-mannered adult Great Dane.
Charlie is a boisterous pup who has knocked people over on occasion. He’s still learning to respect people’s space which means he’s not suited to be around elderly people or small children, he is still way too pushy. Charlie does know how to be gentle and gives the best cuddles, wet slobbery ones actually. In typical Great Dane style, Charlie would be superglued to your hip all day if he could. He has been living with a retired gentleman and so adjusting to a full-time working home would be a huge challenge for him. There would need to be many weeks of adjustment required.
We’d consider a home with older kids that are tough enough to take the knocks of a giant pup, but the serious training would need to be done by an experienced dedicated adult. Like most Great Danes, Charlie would do best being allowed to be inside with his people but would need to be taught to be calmer and more respectful.
Charlie needs his daily walk or two along with a training session. He likes other dogs, has some doggie friends and got along well with other dogs he’s lived with, although a bit too rough for the smaller dog requiring separation for safety. He hasn’t been tested with cats but having to manage safety around interactions is best avoided to simplify the home environment.
Tug of War has been Charlie’s favourite game and he’ll play for as long as anyone will hang onto the other end. He loves his basket and soccer ball. Softer toys are fun but don't last long and still end up in bits!
Meeting new people takes a little time for Charlie. He can be unsure at first and needs his space as he gets familiar. Charlie will need help to continue to grow his confidence and learn to become comfortable with new people more quickly. Once Charlie feels safe and relaxes, he’s very friendly and affectionate.
Charlie has done some basic training with a local Bunbury trainer, and it makes sense for his new home to continue with the assistance of a professional. Should Charlie stay in his local area, this trainer is prepared to continue to assist with a cost-effective program.
Charlie is a beautiful Great Dane that we’re looking for a dedicated big dog experienced owner to work with him into adult hood so that he develops into the well-mannered boy we know he can be. He's going to make a sensational dog with the right home.
