About Xena
************** PLEASE APPLY AT www.gsrv.com.au ****************************
XENA NEEDS A SPECIAL HOME
Xena is a beautiful 7-year-old female German Shepherd who is looking for a new home through no fault of her own. Having spent her entire life outside, she is craving the love and attention of a new family who will adore her and give her the life she deserves.
Xena loves nothing more than being around people and getting attention. After an initial ‘woof’ Xena is a very friendly girl who loves meeting visitors especially when they have treats on offer!
Xena currently lives with older children, despite her age she is still very active and puppy-like, she can still jump up and mouth at times and needs to learn how to take treats nicely, she may be suited to a family with children over the age of 8 years old.
Xena knows her basic commands but would benefit from extra training to remind her of her doggy manners. When out walking, Xena is generally calm and happy to explore the neighbourhood, however she does bark and can be reactive when she sees another dog. Xena will need to be the only dog in her new home and will need to avoid other dogs for now, she is not suited to a home with cats or other small pets.
Xena is living with the condition Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). EPI is when the pancreas does not produce sufficient enzymes to digest food correctly. This difficulty in digestion leads to poor absorption of much needed nutrients and often results in severe weight loss. EPI can be managed with medication and adjustments to diet. Xena’s EPI is currently managed with the combination of high-quality food and Creon tablets (an inexpensive pancreatic enzyme replacement).
Xena does need to put on a little weight and she will need to be on medication for the remainder of her life. We are looking for someone special who will commit to making sure Xena receives the treatment she needs to ensure she continues to be a healthy and happy dog.
Xena desperately wants to be welcomed inside with her forever family, having always been outside, she is lonely and craving attention, she is dreaming of a warm bed inside where she can cuddle up and get all the affection her heart desires.
If you think you can give Xena the perfect home that she so desperately needs; please complete an online Adoption Application on our website, or email rescue@gsrv.com.au if you are already on our waiting list.

Adoption details
We offer a 'Foster to Adopt' program. This means that the dog will go to live with their adoptive family for 4 weeks to ensure it is the perfect match for both the dog and new family. After the 4 weeks is complete, if all has gone well, the adoption is formalised and your new doggy companion is officially yours!
If you are interested in adopting from us, we ask that you fill out the Adoption Application form on our website (via the link provided below) with as much detail as possible, including the name of the dog you are interested in.
We do not rehome female dogs to a home where there is an existing female dog. Whilst there are always exceptions, it is generally unwise to have two females together; two males can sort it out, a male and a female can sort it out, but when two females fight, the results can be disastrous. For this reason, following the advice from numerous Veterinary behaviourists, as well as our own experience from the last eight years, we do not rehome females into homes with other female dogs.
All of our dogs are de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated
Puppies (2 months to 4 months) - $1000
Puppies (4 to 6 months) - $800
Adolescents (6 months to 1 year) - $700
Mature (1 year to 6 years) - $600
Senior (7 years plus) - $350
