If you are looking for an affectionate, goofy (with a side of cheeky) and friendly boy who will be your shadow, look no further …. Maru is here!
Maru loves to sleep at his foster mum’s feet and under her work desk when she works from home and is very happy to follow his foster mum and foster sisters around trying his very best to help with everything they are doing. He is also happy to chill in his crate while you are busy and need him to be out of the way for some time.
He is well mannered and respectful and wants nothing else other than your love and attention.
He is smart and learns very quickly the do’s and don’ts through positive reinforcement and continuous training.
Maru is a happy camper and an easy-going boy who doesn’t have a mean bone in his body and is always so eager to please you.
He is friendly, responsive, good with routine, playful, energetic (with an ability to switch off as required), not aggressive and receptive to commands and your vibe.
He hardly barks at home; however, he might bark out of excitement at times. This behaviour settles after some reassuring pats and a cuddle. It is a non-aggressive bark and with some training and building his confidence further, this behaviour should settle.
Although quite large compared to his foster sisters, he is very gentle and lives extremely well with them. He doesn’t mind sharing his bed and his space with his foster sisters.
He is also getting better at being home alone with her foster sisters and has been tested for a few hours without any issues other than barking for a few minutes before he settles down. Ongoing training will be beneficial.
He has shown no signs of food aggression or resource guarding and trusts his people. However, some supervision at dinner time will be helpful if you are feeding multiple dogs at the same time.
Maru would love to go to a home with a similar sized dog as being quite a young dog, he enjoys a good run around and playing with his doggie mates. As his energy levels are moderate, he would be happy with a medium sized backyard with regular visits to off lead dog parks, beach walks, hiking trails and all other adventures you could possibly think of. He travels well in the car with a seatbelt.
Maru will benefit from continued lead training with someone who handles him with strength and confidence as he is very intuitive.
He is doing well with commands like sit, no, slow down, go to bed etc.
Maru sleeps through the night and is toilet trained. Some training to use the doggy door will really help him to have a good mix of indoor and outdoor time. He is best suited for a home where he is included in activities, adventures, and everyday life as much as possible.
Teenagers or upper primary dog-savvy kids will be good for Maru. Not tested with young children although he should be fine with them after sufficient training and supervision.
