About Axel
Introducing this gorgeous young man Axel!
Axel is a 11 week old old Kelpie x male ( We think Staghound who currently weighs around 8 kilos so based on his current weight and breed we feel he will be a larger size med boy and full growth )
Axel has been living with his biological sister Rose, resident Kelpie Blaze and resident cat Lily.
Axel is just perfect! He is cute, funny, cuddly, playful, a sweetie and a terror all rolled into one gorgeous little package. He is confident and well behaved and will be a wonderful addition to any family willing to put time and effort into his happiness!
Axel has had some experience in travelling in the car and does well sitting on the back seat harnessed in. He will whimper a little but with a reassuring pat is happy to curl up and have a snooze.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM AND JUNK FOLDERS FOR YOUR APPLICATION ONCE YOU HAVE SENT YOUR INITIAL ENQUIRY
Axel's visit to the vet was easy and he was a star patient, all the staff wanted to keep him, quite frankly, so do we!
Axel sleeps with his sister in the crate at night and makes no fuss at all. He can be an early riser and will let you know it’s time to get up with lots of chatter.
Axel has done well with toileting as he was introduced to outside before coming into the house. Each night before bed he is taken out to ‘do wees’ and is then fine until morning when we repeat the process.
Axel just lives and breathes mealtimes! He is at your heels as you are preparing meals and will take hold of anything ‘food’, so owners must be careful what they leave around as it won't last long. Axel is eating savour life grain free puppy food morning and night with a small amount of prime at night just being introduced and is a champion eater. He has also been introduced to a morning snack, either a biscuit, little piece of cheese or some roast chicken, just be careful to avoid his excited little teeth as we are still learning to be gentle . We have been using these treats to encourage Axel to sit and we are seeing some improvement in this area. We have been using a puzzle tray for Axel to eat in a bid to slow down his puppy guzzling!
Unfortunately, Axel has not been tested on the lead as he has only just received the last of his vaccinations to be able to go for a walk, however we believe Axel will do well with any sort of reward training while beginning this exercise.
Axel is a very energetic and smart little puppy. He will most definitely need enrichment through toys, walks, socialisation, interaction with others, both canine and human. Axel will be best suited to a home with another older dog who can continue to show him how its done, however this older dog will need to be patient and energetic to keep up with his puppy energy. Another dog is also needed to keep Axel company and keep him calm when humans are not at home. In foster, Axel has had access indoors and outdoors at all times and is home alone for only a few hours at a time. If locked outside Axel does become anxious and will whimper and scratch on the door. He will need reinforced reward training to change this behaviour if being left home alone, however we do not encourage anyone to apply who will be away from home for extended periods of time throughout the day.
Axel is interested in cats but shows no aggression towards resident cat.
Axel will flourish in a home with children. Please be mindful however that Axel is still learning and can nip when playing and these tiny little teeth do hurt! Also, Axel still being so young needs his down time and rest periods and children will need to understand when Axel heads to his crate/sleep area, he is to be left to rest and not disturbed.
Axel needs an energetic family who will include him in all aspects of their life at home and outside. Will need regular exercise and enrichment.
All in all we couldn’t recommend Axel enough for a loving and fun family. He will melt your heart in an instant and will give back love and affection ten-fold!
