About Boss
Boss is a stunning-looking Kelpie boy who is very affectionate, social, and good with people and other dogs. He is looking for a home where his new family truly wishes to make this lovely boy part of their home and lifestyle.
Boss came into care from a country pound recently and whilst he knows basic commands is still learning about the noises, traffic, and the like of the big smoke and walking on a leash as it is unlikely that he has ever been on a leash. His foster carers have been working with Boss on these things and he is doing well considering, progressing with each day, he is keen to learn, very food motivated and obviously being a kelpie is a super smart boy so we are sure it will not be long before Boss is taking this all in his stride.
His new owner must have the time and be prepared to continue to work with Boss in this regard using positive reinforcement being careful not to flood/overwhelm him in busier environments atm whilst continuing to introduce him slowly to new areas, socialisation, and experiences. Some shorter activities in busier areas are recommended at this stage with most of his walks/exercise taking place in quieter areas atm.
Boss will need a home with a securely fenced garden in a quieter residential area, even better if his new home is on a small acreage (provided it is securely fenced), we are happy to consider homes outside of Sydney. He is not suitable for apartment living.
Boss must have access inside and out at all times (not necessarily all areas of the home) and be permitted to sleep inside in a warm area of the home at night.
We would prefer that he go with another young, friendly/energetic medium/large well-adjusted dog that is able to be a good role model and help Boss navigate this new urban world. His carer believes he may be ok as an only dog provided there were other dogs within the family/friends group that he could go on outings with and socialise with daily, his new owner was not away from home for long periods and his new owner had time to spend with him and not just leave him in the backyard.
Whilst Boss isn't the usual crazy Kelpie type with the obsessive behaviours that are typical for the breed, like all working breeds, Boss is energetic so will need an active owner committed to making sure he gets at least 1 to 2 hours of exercise outside of the home each day, bush walks, trips to the beach/lakes, and the like, together with mental enrichment games such as food games, chewing sticks/toys, nose works etc.
Previous experience with working breeds is preferred.
Due to his energy levels, he is not suitable for a home with younger children, whilst he has not been tested, we believe that he would be ok with older children provided they were respectful and kind with animals
Grooming: Boss has a short coat.
If you would like to meet the gorgeous Boss please MAKE SURE you also send us as much detail as possible on yourself and the home you are able to provide including your location, contact number, your other dog, family members, lifestyle, training, exercise,
and outings you will provide Boss, how often Boss would be alone, where he will have access in the home and where he would sleep of a night, where Boss would go if you went away and could not take him with you, ability to cover vet expenses and any other information you wish to provide.
