Hey everyone, my name is Tai!
I am a sweet, happy dog with a warm personality. I was rescued from death row after my owner abandoned me with his elderly parents and they couldn't look after me. Weighing in at 40kg, I am a big boy with a huge heart to match. I have the most loving, sweet gaze and just want to be your best friend!
Since arriving into care, I've been pretty easy to care for! I've only had one accident inside, I get along with the cat, and I'm great with the other dogs (male, female, and medium to large breeds). I haven't been treated very well in past; it is clear I've been beaten and kicked before and it took me a few days to be ok with anyone touching me. I don't have a mean bone in my body; I would just cower and hide my face hoping you wouldn't hurt me. But once I realised I was safe and these people were not only friendly, but had these things called 'you want a treat?' as well- I began following them around, happily running over for a pat and a cuddle, and calmed way down.
When I came into care I was quite thin... I had definitely been underfed for quite some time and so naturally, I can be a bit of a food thief! I am slowly learning I'm not allowed to get into the bin or steal food off the dining table, but my carers are being patient as of course it's not my fault I've had to steal food in past due to being underfed. I'm a healthy weight now, being fed twice a day (twice a day = twice the bond-building sessions!) and I am settling down now that food is consistent and I am learning boundaries in the home. I spend most of my time inside on my bed, simply laying watching the humans do whatever they're doing, or chewing on a deer antler or kong.
I travel well in the car, and my carers buckle me in for my own safety which also lets me know I am expected to stay in my seat. I am a dog that would thrive from having a dog friend or two for company, and someone who will let me inside as part of the family when they're home and continue my training. I would also thrive with some crate training and leashed walks; dog parks might be a little too scary for me right now, but I'd still love to get out and about, to see sniff and roll and spend quality time with you!
I would like to be behind a 6ft fence with no gaps or footholds, so that I stay safely in my yard. To keep my brain busy, my carers usually give me my breakfast scattered across the grass, or in a puzzle toy or kong- and my dinner easily accessible in a bowl. I enjoy the challenge of the toys, but working for every meal is a bit too much so that's why my carers have balance! I'd suit a loving, confident owner who will make me a real friend and part of the family and make sure I never get abandoned or abused again!
So what do you think? Could I be the one for you?
Adoption details

- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas

- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age

Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet. We will not contact you if you do not complete the form in full AND provided the required photos of yard/fencing within 48hrs. Photos may be sent to our facebook page, or email offthechaink9rescue@outlook.com

If you apply to adopt but require us to hold the pet more than 3 days before meeting, we will ask you for a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters. If you follow through with adoption after your meet, the $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must notify OTC, and present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic we direct you to in your area. OTC will cover any treatment needed at our authorised clinics.
Ready to roll? Then fill out the application form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox. (www.facebook.com/offthechaink9)
