Sos

Do you love dogs with ears that have a mind of their own? How about great big soulful chocolate-coloured eyes and the sweetest (and most curious) of snoots? If so, you’ve come to the right place says Sos!

Sos the long noodle shaped greyhound is very proud of his 4 years and 4 months of age, and can show you a thing or two about being happy and living in the moment. When this sweet boy first came to Amazing Greys in late May this year, he was scared of almost everything, traffic, stairs, neighbours, loud voices and more. Yup he has had a tough life prior to being surrendered to Amazing Greys. But his loving foster fam have seen first-hand just how clever Sos is, have recognised his propensity to overcome his fears, and have worked with him daily so that his trepidation has now shifted to curiosity and even disinterest – take that large and noisy tram! As for those stairs, well Sos has channelled Donkey’s (from Shrek’s) spirit and I’m pretty sure can be heard saying “Don't mess wit' me. I'm the Stair Master. I've Mastered the Stairs. I wish I had a step right here, I could step here and here and here and step all over it.”

Want to know more? Well, how does waiting patiently in front of the kitchen while his foster humans prepare his food sound? He also responds to “down” and “out” (as in out of the kitchen while it’s in use) and let’s not forget about “wait” and “go, go, go” when crossing roads while out on walks, all very handy things to know. When Sos first started going on walks, he used to pull in every direction his nose led him (wouldn’t you if you smelt something delectable?) but has now calmed down as he has gotten familiar with his environment. He even walks next to his foster fam with a loose lead and has recently started working on clicker training as well, something his lovely new home will be very happy to continue with him with the help of Amazing Greys.

To quote his fosters, Sos is known for his entertaining “teenage level antics”; he is a bit of a counter surfer and likes to sneak things such as towels, shoes, backpacks, as well as other titbits that he will trade back, in exchange for treats (clever boy, we know) so his wonderful new home will be happy to continue teaching him to trade up and Amazing Greys has some useful resources that we can share with you on this. Additionally, any introductions with new dogs will need to be slow (as is the case with almost all rescued dogs), because while this liquorice of a dog loves meeting new people and other greyhounds, he is still learning about how to interact better with other non-greyhound shaped dogs. His foster fam has noticed that he seems to get along best with female dogs, particularly female greys, so could do well with having a medium to large female sibling, pending introductions.
Sos’s new home will have people home more often then not, a yard so that he can have some space for zoomies and to relieve himself, and most importantly, an adoptive family who can give him paw massages, pets and licky mats after walk time!
