About Mars
It’s time for our resident gentle giant to find his forever home!
Mars has a wonderful and loving nature. He is a big goofy boy who enjoys the simple things in life like a nice place to rest and many pats from his people. He will lean his big head into you to ask for a head scratch and you will get his paw or a bump of his nose asking for more pats if you stop! When meeting new people, he gets the biggest wiggly butt and does little hops on his front feet in excitement. Mars is a massive cuddle bug and loves nothing more than to snuggle up on the couch with you. Sometimes, he forgets his size and even tries to creep into your lap to get closer. Mars weighs in at 50kg so there is a lot of him to love – his photos really don’t show just how handsome this boy truly is but everyone that has had the pleasure of knowing him can say just what a beautiful soul he is.
Mars came to us from a rural NSW facility and slotted easily into his foster home like he had always been there. He is an extremely well-mannered boy who enjoys hanging out in the yard and lying in the sun (or the shade on these hotter days). In the house, he is well behaved and a delight to have around. Mars is toilet trained and sleeps throughout the night either in the laundry or in his crate without a peep. He is not destructive, travels well in the car and enjoys a warm bath followed by a good towel dry off. Mars does find storms scary if he is outside, but he is fine if inside the home and fireworks are no bother to him. His carer reports that he is an extremely easy going dog around the home and that he is extremely quiet – in fact they have never heard a bark or noise from him!
Sadly, Mars has some medical issues that mean that he needs a special home with a kind-hearted person. Upon coming into care, he lived with another dog and was socialising with others out and about; however, he started becoming less social. Upon medical investigation it was discovered he had severe bi-lateral hip dysplasia and a previously untreated cruciate injury in one knee. Despite this, he is still quite lively, enjoys his walks and a gentle play in the yard – he just shouldn’t overdo it as he will come up sore. We have put Mars on joint supplements, and he can have pain medication when required to ensure he can enjoy a good quality of life (though he isn’t needing the pain meds at the moment). This care will need to be continued in his new home, along with a good quality diet. He definitely still has some good time left to enjoy and we are looking for that person who can give him all the love and care he deserves through this time but be good enough to make a call when the time comes to ensure he doesn’t suffer.
We are looking for a caring home where Mars will be a loved member of the family. He is good with children and currently lives with a toddler. He is happy to share his love with everyone he meets. Mars is best suited children who are used to extra large dogs and who can ensure they are respectful when handling him so that he isn’t hurt accidently. We are rehoming Mars as an only dog and prefer an environment with a large yard or even small acreage where he can just enjoy the quiet life (no units please). He is unsuited to busy environments and too much activity. Mars must be allowed inside with the family and have a warm comfy bed inside to sleep on at night. A must is someone who will love him and make up for the care he hasn’t had in his life so far. He deserves to be given as much love back as he gives, complete with lots of snuggles and attention.
If you have room in your heart and your home for a big, gorgeous boy and would like to offer him that comfy bed and oodles of love, please reach out by completing a Dog Adoption Enquiry form on the Fetching Dogs website as the next step.
Medical notes
Mars has been diagnosed with severe bi-lateral hip dysplasia and has a previous untreated cruxiate injury. He will require ongoing joint supplements to support him and will require pain medication in the future.
He's still quite lively and runs around without issue but can over do it and become sore.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
