Arlo ~ 4mo Border Collie X(On Trial 9/8/22)

Arlo is smart, loyal, and affectionate with a super sweet temperament. His mother was a Border Collie x Kelpie and his dad was an Irish Wolf Hound x Bull Arab.

Arlo was very timid when he came into care, and is still a little timid. He has gained a lot of confidence and now walks on the lead, plays with other gentle dogs and meets new people. He still needs slower introductions to totally new people. He has had limited exposure to unknown dogs but has had a couple of introductions. As long as the other dog is well socialised and gentle, he is very happy to play.

Arlo is very smart. He knows sit by hand command only, he knows come, and he walks reasonably well on the lead. He will stay by you when walking off lead in an enclosed area. He is learning drop and wait. He is coming along well with his toilet training. He sleeps through the night on his own bed. He is extremely well mannered for a puppy.

Arlo loves to be with his carer inside. He likes to go outside with a bone to chew but he hasn’t been there for long lengths of time because he doesn’t have a doggy friend. He would be suited to someone retired or works from home, or for half days initially, and would love to have a dog friend in the yard with him if left for extended periods.

Arlo has working breed in him, so may be quite active in the future, but at the moment he is happy with a slow walk during the day and some training. He is a very relaxed dog when indoors. He likes nothing more than to sleep next to you on the lounge, at your feet, or on his bed. The rest of the time he likes something to chew while you watch TV or do your work.

He would suit a single person, a couple or even a family with older children. He hasn’t been
introduced to young children, and they may be a little too noisy for him while he is still timid.
Arlo loves to be outside with his carer, doing whatever they are doing so he will need a new home that allows him inside and to be part of everyday outdoor life. As he is still very young, somewhat timid and with limited exposure, we recommend puppy school and ongoing training so he reaches his potential to be the perfect companion.

Arlo will need a large back yard with at least 5-foot fences because he is going to be on the larger side of medium, with athletic breeding. He would love to have a dog companion and/or regular play dates and a doggy door to come and join you inside.

As Arlo is not yet desexed, he is only available for adoption to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens because he will need to be returned to a DRN approved vet for desexing when he is approximately 5/6 months old. Please NO out of area applications.

Arlo is in foster care in the Raymond Terrace NSW and is not available for adoption interstate. Arlo’s adoption fee is $700 which includes all up-to-date vet work. He is microchipped, vaccinated (adoption fee includes second vaccination) treated for fleas and worms and his desexing fee is also covered by the adoption fee.
