Profile and needs in a home:-
Basil (or Baz as his foster carers affectionately call him) is a very chilled-out pupstar, who is very easy to have around. Baz’s carer cannot praise him enough!
We do not know his exact breed and believe Baz is a mix of a few breeds, his carers believe that he may have some Wolfhound in him. What we do know is that Baz is full of sugar and spice and all things nice:)
At around 12 months old, he's a handsome big boy, with long legs, big paws, winning personality. He was a little underweight when he first came into care however he's filling out every day weighing in at 24 kg at the moment. At this stage, we believe Baz will be no more than 30kgs.
After a tough start to life, Basil is looking for the best loving second-chance home, where he can be part of the family. He has loads of love to give and is so deserving of a wonderful home.
Everyone who meets him, comments on what a beautiful boy he is, with a gentle, kind, and loving nature. He recently had a weekend away camping with his foster carer where he was the best boy and loved meeting new people and their doggos.
We do not know how Basil is with cats.
Ideally, Basil would like:
A reasonable size secure backyard to play games and another young, friendly, medium/large stable doggo play pal to race, wrestle and chillax with afterward. He also plays quite gently with smaller dogs in the dog park.
Basil may also be ok as an only dog provided his new family were home more often than not, included him in their lifestyle, and could give him daily interactions with other dogs, daily exercise and adventures in the great outdoors.
Basil is an active boy so will need an active family who will include him in their lives, he loves getting out and about and is well behaved outside of the home. His foster carers have been giving Basil lots of new experiences whilst he has been in their care. He loves getting out and about to the beach, bush walks, camping, and the local dog park where he loves to romp and play with dogs of all sizes and will need at least two walks a day.
Basil is still very much a big goofy pup star so will need a home that can set some boundaries, and continue to work with him, using force-free training methods, exercise, and mental stimulation to ensure that he continues to grow into the superstar doggo that we know he will be.
Basil is used to being inside with his family so must have access inside and outside at all times and be permitted to sleep inside in a warm area of the home. Basil does consider himself a bit of a couch potato so a home where he is permitted on the couch at night for cuddles is an absolute requirement for Basil.
Basil has met some children on a recent camping weekend and was also great with them so a home with older children would be ok.
Basil will reward you with:
Plenty of admiration from other doggo lovers.
Cuddles and kisses.
Trying his best to please.
Great company when you're working from home.
So far in his training Basil can:
Good recall. He comes running when called.
Walk well on a lead. No pulling. He's non-reactive to other dogs on walks.
Sit on command (most of the time).
Able to stay home for a few hours with no issues.
Travels well in a car.
He doesn't jump up when guests visit or when he visits other people's homes.
He is house trained. No accidents. Of course, your home will be a new environment for Basil so you will have to set him up to succeed.
Really not much he needs to work on, however, if we were being really picky, he needs to work on:
Sit. He sometimes just looks at you blankly.
Tricks. His carer has been working on 'paw' but he is not quite there yet.
Having a sleep-in in the morning. He's pretty wiggly and playful when he wakes up but still being a young boy this is to be expected.
Basil is a really lovely dog and his new forever home will be very lucky to have him in their lives. He will make you smile every day at his goofy antics. If his foster carers were in a position to keep him they would.
Please send us as much detail as possible on yourself and the home you are able to provide including your location, contact number, your other dog/pets, family members, lifestyle, training, exercise, and outings you will provide Basil, how often Basil would be alone, where he will have access in the home and where he would sleep of a night, where Basil would go if you went away and could not take him with you, ability to cover vet expenses and any other information you wish to provide so that we can see if you are a good fit for Basil
