Are you ready for the smoochiest cuddle bug ever?
My name is Gabby VonFab and I am affectionate, playful and inquisitive although a little shy at first. When I first met my foster mum, I was scared of everything as I had not had much socialisation but I heard them whisper that I am slowly blossoming into little miss cheeky chops after being around my confident foster siblings in a home environment.
Once I am comfortable I insist on kisses (even if you don’t want any) and climbing up on your lap as I don’t have any sense of space. My biggest skill is counter surfing and I have won the title of sneaky food thief no.1. Foster mum thinks this is a skill I should forget quickly. I also love to roll in stinky things.
My dream home is where my humans work from home, as I am still getting used to spending time by myself and I love to be the centre of attention all the time. If I had another doggy friend to shadow, I think that would really help me come out of my shell and we would have the best time. I MUST be allowed inside the house and be treated as part of the family and would not be suited to an outdoor only environment as I need to be close to my humans all the time. If you have had a ridgeback before as well as some puppy experience you will be just what I need to help me achieve my full potential.
I get along great with all my doggy friends, but don’t really like it when little dogs bark at me and run circles round me so will need slow introductions with polite dogs.
I love kids too, but due to my size and being a typical mouthy pup, my foster parents think I would be best with the older kids who can handle a bouncy pup. I will need a strong human to take me on walks as I slowly learn to walk nicely on a lead.
Did I tell you that I am also very clever and understand a few commands (I do a killer sit and look) but will need a dedicated home that will continue to teach me to be a good dog by taking me to dog obedience training so I can be the best girl ever.
I love food and will go on treasure hunts to the kitchen pantry when I think no one is looking. I am also very greedy and try and steal food off your plate – so am learning this is not cool. I respond well to positive reinforcement during training and am easily redirected with a stern “NO”/ ”ah aah” or the very sight of a squirt bottle (that is some scary stuff!). I will do anything for treats but am learning that they only come to me when I wait and am gentle (hardest thing at the moment since I am a puppy with the attention span of a gnat!).
During the day, I follow my humans around the house, play with my toys and when I am tired I fall asleep close to my humans at work. I sleep in the same room as my humans at night and in my very own crate and if I need to go to the toilet I wake them up with some noise (not all the time). Since I am only a puppy, I am learning about toilet training and need to be taken out frequently especially after meals and a big drink and given the cue word “toilet” till I do my business but still have occasional accidents inside if my humans miss my cues.
My favourite toys are food enrichment toys (like zogoflex and kongs), rope toys and squeaky toys.
I get very scared and my tail goes into hiding when I hear sudden loud noises - so my humans will need to be patient and work on desensitisation around sudden noises and moving objects (prams, cars, trolleys) till I am confident that my humans have my back and won’t let anything bad happen to me.
My foster mum says I am the sweetest, most sensitive girl and just know when you are having a bad day and need kisses and cuddles.
Final comment: If you are looking for a big goofy velcro puppy to be the Goose to your Maverick, give you lots of love and be your best friend for life, I’m your gal. All I need is some patience, kisses and training, but once you see what a good girl I am, you won’t be able to imagine life without me.
