About Poppy
Poppy has had an interesting journey to say the least. She is bright, playful, affectionate and really needs to find her forever home.
She was found in a very remote part of the nth of SA and brought to Alice Springs. She was so frightened she escaped by breaking through a window.
After a month was finally found at the local RSPCA in Alice Springs NT
She finally found a place in the care of the famous dog lady of Yuendumu. (A very remote part of the NT.) Once there she learnt to trust again.

Poppy is now ready for adoption. She has travelled from Yuendumu to Alice Springs and now to Melbourne. Quite a journey and she’s barely one year old.
She is doing really well on the lead, and really enjoys her walks.
She has become confident when meeting new dogs in the park and plays well with them.
She is still new to life in the city so her new home will have to very slowly introduce her to all new experiences.
It’s a matter Poppy learning to trust her new owners. So they will need to be patient and aware that this will happen in her time.
She loves treats, playing with balls and toys which can help with training her.
Classes would be great for her confidence.
We believe Poppy would really enjoy and benefit from more challenging training techniques, as she’s seems quite intelligent.
Poppy needs a quiet place at first so won't suit a busy home e.g. a share house or young family with lots of people coming and going.
She will need to learn where she lives again. Therefore extra care will need to be taken during the initial period once she’s at her new home.
She may take an opportunity to slip out and disappear or try to go back to her previous home.(now a long way away)
Poppy has proven that if given the chance to settle in she becomes very comfortable and at home.
We need a home that can illustrate to us that they understand this and how they will cope.
Poppy is about 10 kgs, about 1 yr old and therefore probably won’t get much bigger.
All Camp dogs are such a mix of breeds, each one being unique. So don't bother asking what breed we think he is because we don't know. You'll be able to play the guess what breed my camp dog is game, for the rest of her life.
Poppy will need an owner experienced with an insecure dog and understand she will need a secure yard or balcony. She will need to be kept on lead for several weeks until she really knows and trusts her new owners.
She has not meet any cats or other kinds of pets.
She is currently in care in Coburg and ready to meet.
Poppy is micro chipped, vaccinated, de-sexed and parasite treated.
PLEASE NOTE
Poppy is in excellent health. However, as she has come from an area of Australia where there have been cases of Ehrlichiosis,( a brown tick borne disease introduced to Australia in 2020), she has received a precautionary course of antibiotics.

1. Have you had a dog before is so, when, size, and age? (not if you have looked after someone else's dog)
2. Who makes up your home, how old are they, what is their relationship to the applicant, and are they all ready to come to a meet and greet if this is offered?
3 Most dogs, puppies, and young cannot be left alone for long hrs e.g more than 4hrs at a time. How will you deal with this issue?
4 If you want a puppy how will you deal with the work involved i.e. toilet training, chewing, mouthing - those sharp teeth - jumping up, going to puppy classes?
5. How will you cope with all these issues if you have children (how old are your children?)?
6. A dog is not just for the children so why do the parents want the puppy and how will you provide the constant supervision and boundaries needed?
7 Have you considered that a dog or a puppy cannot immediately be taken to a dog park or cafe and need to slowly understand all the new sights, sounds, people, dogs, etc of their new environment?
8 If necessary how will you seek additional one on one training for you and your dog?
9 Where will the dog sleep at night?
10 How will you provide for any veterinary costs?

12 If you rent have you obtained written approval for a dog?
13 If you own an apartment have you obtained written approval from the body corporate?
14 We cannot provide any more information about the eventual size or breed of the dog. Have you considered this?
15 If you are offered a meet and greet and it is felt by all that the dog or pup is a good fit for your family, we expect you to be ready to take the dog home/adopt at the time.
From what date do you want to adopt?
We cannot hold dogs as space in foster care is needed for other dogs.
Thank you
