About Norbie
Norbie was rescued on the 17th of March 2020 (estimated age at rescue 3yrs), grew up in a small remote country town located in the Pilbara region of WA.
Norbie was rehomed 3 months after he was rescued by the amazing team at SAFE and despite his very neglected early years, Norbie always had an amazing loving, gentle nature. He loves to be around people and particularly enjoys the laughter children bring however a home with older children would be a must as he needs a lot of patience. He has had his a few teeth removed and will hang his tongue out to show his gummy smile.
Norbie required surgery where he had his right back leg amputated due to a severe accident at his original home which looked to be him getting hit by a car (with his love of car chasing, we figured it was definitely the case unfortunately). This surgery did not stop Norbie and he recovered very well, bouncing back happily with only three legs. Then approximately six months after his amputation Norbie's back left cruet ligament gave in and Norbie needed another surgery. And the surgery was on his only good back leg. A metal plate was inserted between his knee-cap region. This was a super trying time for Norbie and during these mending weeks - it was easy to build a trust with him because he knew he needed assistance at times. We have never seen such a determined three legged dog move about with such courage and resilience. He is a very brave dog!
Norbie's three legs has not stopped him from his LOVE of walks! Norbie is a very high energy dog that requires a minimum of one walk a day or a family with a property where he can explore. One walk a day of 30 minutes in length (with small breaks) is essential for Norbie (he will complain if he is not walked and loves to talk and bark telling you exactly what he wants). Two walks of this duration split up in one day makes Norbie a very happy dog.
**An important tip while walking Norbie try to avoid getting close to moving cars! Norbie loves chasing cars and will not hesitate in running up to MOST fast- or slow-moving vehicles (other than buses or large transport). Norbie does not like brooms or vacuum cleaners.
Norbie eats dry biscuits, dog meats and particularly he loves human leftovers, safe for doggies of course. I found he loves roasted chicken and will even appreciated the occasional McDonalds fries that end up on the floor. Norbie requires medication twice a day which he happily takes orally in his mouth. It is essential Norbie stays on this medication so is needing a family that would be able to continue this for his needs.
Only a Medium sized boy, coming up to knee height, he has finished growing. He shed's short white hair when being given a pat which he adores.
Norbie is house trained and knows how to use a doggy door. He would suit a family with another dog his size with an easy going gentle nature. Currently in care with a few other little dogs, he really likes to lap up the attention and have the belly rubs all to himself. He can get a little jealous of other dogs however is happy sharing a home, it will take some adjustment.
Norbie is a beautiful dog who needs someone he can learn to trust and someone that can give him all of his love. Could you be the one for Norbie?
