About Oswald
This beautiful boy was born on May 31st, 2006 and sadly dumped by his undeserving owners just shy of his 16th birthday, when he became too much of an inconvenience.
Oswald is blind (cataracts) and hearing impaired. When he came to us, he had been neglected for some time, severely matted with overgrown nails digging into his paw pads.
Since coming into care and being cleaned up, he quickly learned our scent and sound and knew he could trust us.
A couple of things to note about Oswald before we get to the great things… Waldo can bite and bark. Before that puts you off, please know, he is NOT aggressive - he only bites when he is startled because he cannot see who is touching him and I do believe he has been hit by his previous owners. His bite does hurt but startling him is easy to avoid for anyone with dog experience and he is worth the effort ❤️ He bit me once under the covers in bed when my leg touched him, but the bed was crowded at the time with 5 other dogs, so it was understandable.
He barks but he is NOT a reactive barker. He doesn’t bark at the fence line, other animals or people. He barks if he doesn’t know where you are and feels like he is alone. He feels comforted knowing his trusted person is near him, and if he isn’t sure, he will do single, consistent barks until you reassure him. I believe a little bit of age related confusion plays a part in this.
The other reason he barks is to let you know he needs to be taken outside to toilet. He’s very well house trained, but he does need to go out with some frequency. He will let you know when he needs to go out during the night. He might do well with a doggie door, but you would need to ensure he doesn’t get lost outside when toileting unattended.
NOW FOR THE GOOD STUFF ❤️
He loves his person. He came into care very scared of touch and would recoil a lot, but he has come to remember that pats and massages are lovely. His face was a sensitive area but now he loves to have his face held and stroked, he even lets me kiss his nose.
He just wants to feel safe, loved and to belong. He loves to be the little spoon in bed under the covers, it brings him such comfort to be right next to his owner.
He is social with other dogs, cats and poultry.
Aside from cataracts and hearing impairment, Oswald is in excellent health for his age. He is desexed, C5 vaccinated, flea and worm treated and up-to-date with heart worm prevention.
He weighs 7.8kg.
Oswald has a lovely coat of long hair that will need brushing to avoid tangles, he may also need an occasional haircut by a groomer.
Medical notes
Almost completely blind (cataracts) and hearing impaired
