Clyde

Charismatic Clyde is a handsome and adventurous 3-year-old who loves his tucker, snuggles and explorations – not necessarily in that order!

Clyde is a cheeky guy who has a penchant for hoarding sponges and hand towels, but is always happy to return them on request.

Clyde is the original love monster and enjoys waking up to his carers’ alarm in the morning and greeting them with big smooches and excitement. He adores his cuddles and head rubs (one is never enough!) and will bat at you or mouth your hand when he wants more pats and snugs.

Clyde’s other favourite pastime is going for drives (he will jump straight into the car), sniffing out the window and taking in the world. So our dude will thrive in a home where he has lots of opportunities to smell and explore with lots of mental and physical stimulation.

Previously a tiny bit of a food pest, Clyde has worked hard in the care of his supportive foster family and has come a long way with his food manners. He remains very food motivated and becomes very excited when he sees his bowl or Kong being prepared, but he doesn’t counter surf or try to steal off plates. He responds very well to clicker training and has learned not to take food without permission.

Clyde will let you know when it’s toilet time - he will often shake (like he’s trying to shake off water) when seeking his humans’ attention to go out to use the bathroom. Provided a comfy space and a bedtime treat, he will sleep through the night.

This magic lad can now also pull any number of other tricks out of his hat:
• He responds well to action based cues - he knows to sit before getting a treat, and that his mat and crate are where he should sit for meals
• He knows not to jump on the human bed, and if he does get excited and put a paw on it, he will jump right off when told no
• He knows to go to bed at bedtime, and will wake his carers up for a morning bathroom visit
• When a hand comes towards him with a treat, he knows not to snatch with his teeth and instead waits to be given the treat straight to his mouth or takes it gently
• He has worked up to six hours alone without his carers (and can hold on)!

Clyde is still learning to take the world in his stride and can become overwhelmed outside on walks, especially at night and when the streets are busy. He is not suited to busy areas as he still needs to get used to quieter streets.

He will require ongoing support to conquer his leash reactivity and *sometimes* freezing on walks – currently this is a work in progress. Clyde is a strong boy and will still jump and pull in excitement at the start of a walk and will pull on his leash when he sees another dog, especially small ones.

Clyde also has a high chase/prey drive (being a greyhound and all) and needs to avoid small animals, especially cats and fluffy dogs.

Clyde has benefited from some professional and foster-led training but needs a forever home where he will be well supported with training and guidance to maintain good habits. He needs his humans to be patient and understand that he just needs a little time to understand what is expected of him, but that he is always trying his best.

While Clyde has been living happily as an only dog, he would likely enjoy having a calm and confident greyhound for company, as he enjoys meeting them on walks, happily sniffing them and saying hello, then cheerfully walking alongside them or doing his own sniffing. Clyde has also played nicely off leash with another grey at home, remaining friendly and calm.
