About Emily
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise and play, considered and gradual positive socialisation with other people/dogs/puppies, grooming and training. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Emily
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender with her 5 siblings.
BREED: Rhodesian Ridgeback x Blue Heeler x Kelpie - Emily should be a medium sized dog.
Breed characteristics: Rhodesian Ridgeback - smart but stubborn with a dignified aloofness to strangers, Affectionate and gentle with family and will defend their home if necessary. Mischievous and strong willed so would need an experienced owner. They are sensitive and do not do well when left alone for long periods. Their high prey drive precludes other animals unless raised together. If bored and lonely can be destructive or wander so strong, high fencing is needed. Not a dog for novice owners.
Blue Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog): Affectionate, devoted and protective of family but can be wary of strangers. Usually attaches to one person and loves to be close. Very, very high energy and highly intelligent - they love to have a job and if not mentally and physically worked enough they will be destructive. Bred to herd by nipping so is mouthy and can nip anything that moves. They have a strong prey drive with other small animals unless reared with them. Not for novice owners
Kelpie: high energy and highly intelligent being a working breed, so may need to be found a 'job' to make them feel fulfilled. They get bored easily if their brains are not worked, so training is a must. They are very social with adults and children and social with other dogs. They are very loyal but if the instinct is strong they may try to herd your children.

ASSETS: Friendly, energetic, playful, intelligent, confident and very loving. She's a total sweetheart!
ENERGY LEVEL: Emily is a typical pup at the moment, plays, eats, poops and sleeps! As she grows she will need good daily exercise and activities to keep her mind and body active. With two working dog breeds in her genes she will probably be a medium to high energy girl so be prepared to increase her daily activities and training as she develops.
FAVOURITE THINGS: She loves to play with a tennis ball and zoom around the garden with the other dogs in her foster home and has a fascination with watching butterflies! After a bout of energetic play she will then settle down for a snooze and cuddle time with her people.
ENDEARING FEATURES: She has a very sweet nature and is a complete delight to be around. She loves affection from her people and will lap up all the attention she can get. She likes to be close to the children in her foster home and follows them around to see what they're doing.
WORKING ON: Housetraining. It's starting to come together but she will need some gentle training and persistent gentle signals to remind her to go outside. Expect some accidents until she gets the hang of things! She will also need some lead training. She knows a few commands already and picks things up fairly easily, so time, gentle persistence and repetition will reap rewards.
EMILY'S IDEAL HOME:
* a home where she is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside and out as she needs
* a decent sized garden where she can run and play, sniff and explore
* a dog- experienced family where someone is home for most of the day especially in the first six months after adoption
* attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for her to learn and grow confidence
* considered and consistent positive exposure and socialisation
Emily could live with another confident dog in her new home after gentle introduction. She interacts well with the cat and chooks in her foster home so could live with a dog-savvy cat or other small animals after gentle, supervised introduction. She would suit a home with gentle older children only, 8+ who will know how to read her signals when she needs space.
If Emily sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please submit an enquiry and we will be in touch soon.
