About Quartz
Quartz is a delightful tiny dog!
She is a real dog in a little dog’s body. First thing in the morning she can’t wait to have her jacket taken off and she will then proceed with the morning stretching routine. This is completed with a thorough session of wiggling upside down on the mat to rub her back with a big smile on her face. Quartz is quite confident for a chihuahua and greets visitors to the house with enthusiasm. She is a bit more aloof when meeting new people out and about, but this is just because she prefers to get on with her walk rather than socialise. In the evening she is more than happy to have cuddle time on the lounge with you or curl up by herself in a warm bed/blanket. She’s so little that she makes a great little lap warmer and she loves having her belly rubbed. Honestly, she’s just so adorable.
Quartz has spent most her life living as an only dog and not being socialised with other dogs. While in foster care, she has been living with 3 other dogs of different sizes. She has become a lot more confident around them and adapted to living harmoniously with them over time. Quartz doesn’t have great manners when meeting new doggy friends as she rushes in, so any dogs she is socialised or living with need to be very easy going in nature. If she is going to live with another dog(s), then her new owner must be appropriately experienced and have a good understanding of dog behaviour as she does display some resource guarding behaviour towards other dogs when she is in her owner’s lap as well.
This little girl loves her walks! Expect to be taking her out for at least 20-30mins a day as she loves to sniff and sets a decent pace considering her tiny little legs! Quartz walks well on the lead but can be a bit tense when passing other dogs. This has been improving over time and she would benefit from some positive reinforcement training in order to nail it. In the wrong hands or in an area that was constantly busy with passing dogs, she could become reactive, so it is important that her new owner is committed to providing further training in this area. Quartz is food motivated and is currently eating Royal Canin chihuahua dry food. She travels well in the car and is more than happy to accompany you on trips.
We are looking for a dog experienced owner who is home more often than not. Quartz is an inside dog and must sleep inside at night. Currently, she sleeps in a crate in her foster carers bedroom but has enjoyed a couple of sneaky nights on the bed as well. She is mostly toilet trained but does best when she has clear and close access to the yard. Her new owner must be willing to take her out to the toilet regularly, particularly during her settling in period. Quartz is ok to be left home alone for short periods/a few hours, but she does have a voice at times so is not suitable to live in a unit/high density living. Whenever you come home, you are going to be greeted with excitement and lots of love from this little girl.
Quartz is ok to live with a cat who is calm around dogs and who will not invade her space. She would also be ok to live with pocket pets. Quartz has previously lived with children and met some while in foster care. Based on our observations she has been good with children and would be fine with children visiting on occasion. However, we will be looking for an adult only home as this scenario better suits her needs and personality. Speaking of personality, there is lots of it in this little package and her new owner will be incredibly lucky to have her. She has a way of wiggling right into your heart!
If you are interested in applying for this amazing little dog, then please complete a Dog Adoption Enquiry form on the Fetching Dogs website as the first step. Please add plenty of detail about yourself, your experience, temperament of any current pets and the type of home you have to offer Quartz.
Medical notes
Quartz has a broken tooth that will require removal in the future. She also has a mid-grade luxating patella that would benefit from supportive care. These things will be discussed further with suitable applicants.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
