About Bowzer
Bowzer
Staffy x Wolfhound
Bowzers current weight is 9.5 kilos so we feel he will probably be a bigger boy at full growth
PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM AND JUNK FOLDERS FOR YOUR APPLICATION ONCE YOU HAVE SENT YOUR ENQUIRY
Blurb: Bowzer is an energetic and determined personality who is not afraid to try new things! He's a big, strong boy but a cuddler at heart, falling asleep the fastest when he's on someone's lap. I don't think this will change much over time. Since being in care, he hasn't hesitated to explore all parts of the property, and loves to test out what could be a fun toy to play with. He's a clever boy and with some patience and training, will surely be a big personality in the family he joins.
Travelling in the car: Bowzer gets a little nervous in the car, however with more exposure and more (fun) trips, he will likely enjoy it a lot with his new family.
Food: Bowzer is extremely food motivated. He loves his meal times and also will be very easy to train with treats. His favourite food: poached chicken! Bowzer also has a very good sense of smell, therefore will be right next to you if he can smell an edible treat closeby.
Outside: Bowzer loves exploring and enjoys going outside. He sometimes gets frightened by loud cars/trucks but will desensitise in time. He's not a fan of the winter chills though and prefers to sleep cuddled up inside in amongst a blanket.
Visitors - People: Bowzer has been tested in a crowded house with a lot of kids and also has been tested with older people, and very loud people. Bowzer has been a well behaved puppy since being with us, however a few times has let out a growl when he has been picked up without warning or if in the middle of something he doesnât want to stop doing (play time). For this reason, Bowzer would not be suitable for very young children or children who do not have any dog experience, as it is important his new family understand dog boundaries and behaviours. During his interaction with the children he has had exposure with has always been gently when playing with them or having a cuddle.
Enrichment: Bowzer likes toys that make sounds the most. Some mung beans in a large water bottle rolling around on the floor is one of his favourite toys. The louder the better!
Independence: Bowzer prefers to be around others and just loves company. I think he would appreciate another dog or an owner who is frequently at home/around.
Walks - lead experience: Since Bowzer came into rescue so young and had not had his proper vaccinations, he has not been tested on a lead yet. However, due to his age Bowzer will be very easy to train. This is why puppy school and training will be very important for Bowzer.
Obedience: Bowzer is smart and I imagine with some persistent training, will be very obedient. Puppy school training will be highly encouraged and will set a good foundation for Bowzerâs ongoing obedience.
Inside: Bowzer is mostly well behaved but over the past 2 days has been testing out climbing on different things (over puppy pens, on the couch). His confidence to explore his environment builds overtime and is wonderful to see. His love of exploring continues inside the house, though this is likely given his age and new-found height.
Dog socialisation, cat, small animals: Bowzer has only been socialised with his brother Diddy Kong, as he has not been given the opportunity to socialise with any other dogs due to his vaccination not being complete during his time in foster.
Sleeping habits: At the moment, Bowzer sleeps for 1-2 hour stretches through the day and wakes for 1-3 hours in between. He sleeps well in a dedicated space and is comfortable being in a crate when asleep. He sleeps for 6-7 hours through the night. Crate training has obviously begun in foster care and will be encouraged to continue in his next home. He loves his safe space and sleeps very well in there.
Toilet training: We are constantly working on Bowzerâs toilet training, and he is getting a bit better each day. He is comfortable going outside for wees/poos but is still learning to initiate this himself. It will be important his new family continue this training.
Ideal home:
Bowzer is growing up to be a big, strong boy with a strong personality, so experience with dogs is ideal.
