About Yogi ~ 1yr Old Kelpie X(On Trial 26/8/22)
Greetings! I’m Yogi (as in the Bear). I’m lean and a little taller than your average Kelpie - apparently I also have some Catahoula in me. At just over 12 months old, I’m eager to please and ready to learn. I
form a quick bond with my hoomans, and I’m super responsive when given clear, consistent directions. I just need someone to spend quality time with me so I can demonstrate what a clever and sweet boy I am.
Check out this movie I starred in: https://youtu.be/DDJZZfc65MA
I need two decent exercise sessions everyday – morning and afternoon. If you’re looking for a running buddy, I’m your guy! I’m built to run. I also love chasing and retrieving balls and running with other dogs at offleash parks. And when I’m not running, I’ll keep you company on the couch. If you’re not the running type, I’ll need two good ball throwing sessions or long walks every single day without fail – otherwise I’ll go a little stir crazy.
I’m happy to share your household with other dogs, even small ones – I’m currently boarding with 2 other canine buddies. I’ve never lived with a cat but I did meet one recently and it seemed ok to me – maybe I could share a house with a feline friend, particularly if it’s confident and likes to snuggle.
I’m a social kinda guy - I’m not sure how well I’d cope on my own all day. I’m ok for short periods provided I’ve burnt up some of my youthful energy and I’m ready to relax for a bit. I’d be fine with older children (especially if they like tug-of-war and throwing balls!), but I may not be suitable for young children as I’m a bit unco and don’t know my own size.
Since being in foster care, I haven’t chewed or destroyed anything (apart from my doggy toys) and I haven’t dug any holes. Nor have I jumped the fence; but I can reach amazing heights, so I might try if I
got really bored or lonely (I’ll need a high fence in case I’m ever tempted!). I always go to the toilet outside and I don’t feel the need to mark everything in sight like other canine dudes. I have excellent dinner manners – I sit and wait until I’ve been invited to eat; and I’m not fussy with food – I’ll lick the bowl dry within seconds. And if there are treats on offer, I will come sprinting back across the park, every time! While I can occasionally be a tad nervous meeting new dogs and hoomans, particularly if there’s any tension, it doesn’t take long for me to chillax – I probably just need more practise to build my confidence in new situations.
I haven’t had much lead training but I’m starting to understand what “heal” means and that I need to stick close and not pull. I forget sometimes and I’m pretty strong; however, I’m a very quick learner and will do anything for a treat!
I prefer my hoomans to be the leaders, so I can take guidance from them and just be my happy, friendly, social self rather than trying to be an alpha dog. My perfect hooman is someone who understands this and makes me feel that they are always in control. I respond very well to positive reinforcement.. and of course lots of love!
