About Kenzie
THe simply stunning Kenzie is now seeking her forever home Kenzie is a stunning Staffy x with a beautiful temperament and a stunning brindle coat Calling all Tasmanian Tiger lovers! If you have always secretly been on the lookout for a canine version of this Australian icon, one you can take for walks around your own neighbourhood, revelling in the comments of awe and admiration at your walking companion - then our sweet and lanky young teenager, Kenzie, might just be the dog you’ve been waiting for! With her beautiful chocolate and dark caramel striped markings, velvet soft coat and deep brown eyes, Kenzie attracts many comments and compliments when she is out and about and she is now on the lookout for her forever home. Humans have already let her down too many times in her short life - but because she is such a beautiful soul (and because all dogs are really angels with four legs) she has not lost hope that her perfect mum or dad is out there, just waiting to see her adoption profile pop up in their newsfeed so they can take this sweet baby home and give her stability, security and unlimited cuddles for the rest of her days. In the short time she has been in foster care, Kenzie has shown herself to be a fun, outgoing and adventurous girl with a strong sense of loyalty and a very clever brain. Like all teenagers, she can be a little silly and can make some dumb decisions, but she does not have a mean bone in her body and does everything with a pure heart and a deep desire to please her people. With her friendly nature and easy going personality, Kenzie will make a perfect family pet for a wide variety of families. She is going to be a large dog when she is fully grown so potential adopters need to own a big comfy couch to accommodate her long limbs - and a welcoming lap for her to rest her noble head in. Make no mistake, this girl is a dedicated snuggler who just wants to be with her family as much as possible. PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM AND JUNK FOLDERS FOR YOUR APPLICATION ONCE YOU HAVE SENT YOUR ENQUIRY SOCIALISATIONKenzie has been fostered with three large boisterous resident dogs and two very young foster puppies. Kenzie arrived into her foster home and was quickly subjected to the “tolerance” test by the resident dogs - who aren’t exactly known for their subtlety. Kenzie accepted the sniffing, barking and general bluff and bluster and settled in very quickly as the temporary fourth member of the “pack”. She has very nice doggy manners, especially for an adolescent dog with an unknown past, and reads the cues of other dogs very well. She was very perceptive in immediately knowing which dog she could run and wrestle with and which dog she needed to give a wide berth to. She has also been taken to her foster carer’s local parkrun event where she encountered lots of new dogs. She was very interested in meeting all the dogs and pulled towards them but behaved impeccably when allowed to greet them, without a growl or a raised hackle. Kenzie has also been a beautiful stand-in mum to the two puppies who arrived in care a few days after she did. She allows them to jump up at her, clamber all over her and sleep on her in whatever position they fall. She enjoys playing with them with toys, although she does play with a puppy exuberance herself and doesn’t always recognise how much bigger and stronger she is than they are. The patience and tolerance she has shown towards the puppies is a testament to her gentle spirit and lovely nature. Kenzie has been fostered with three resident cats and has behaved beautifully around them. She is aware of their presence and acknowledges when they’re nearby but she is clearly not a cat chaser and could live happily with a confident cat or two in her new home. Kenzie’s foster home has four children aged above 10 years and she enjoys their company however she does seem to gravitate more towards the adults in the home and this should be taken into consideration for anyone looking to adopt a dog primarily as a child’s pet. Kenzie has been exposed to sheep, horses, cows, alpacas and kangaroos whilst in her foster home. She has shown signs of wanting to chase the livestock along the fence line but has no desire to hurt them and only wants to get them moving around, after which she will return straight back to her carer. However she will require secure fencing and more desensitisation training if her new home has, or is surrounded by, livestock. Birds are Kenzie’s favourite thing to watch and chase - she is absolutely fascinated by any and all birds that she sees while out walking, and loves running at them at top speed to get them to fly off. For this reason a home with backyard chickens will not be considered. EXERCISE AND ENRICHMENTKenzie is a fit and athletic girl who will require a walk every single day regardless of the weather. She has been walked each day whilst in care, mostly off lead in the back paddocks near her foster home. She loves her walks and stays close to her foster carer most of the time. She will take off for short bursts to chase a rabbit or kangaroo but she realises very quickly that she has no chance of catching it and returns to her carer at full pelt after a whistle and call of her name. In full flight, Kenzie is a true joy to behold - she runs with the speed of a greyhound….and the elegance of a newborn giraffe. And with her huge ears flapping in the wind behind her, she will bring a smile to even the most reluctant face. At her normal walking pace, Kenzie shows off the classic hip swagger that lovers of large dogs will recognise and adore (if you know, you know, right?). Kenzie is strong and usually pulls on the lead when first starting out however she settles down quickly and then walks at a lovely pace. Kenzie enjoys playing wrestling and bitey-face games with her blue heeler foster brother, and also enjoys trying to gently coax her crankier foster brother and sister to play with her. .
OBEDIENCEKenzie has a very active mind and is a quick learner. She sits and waits for her dinner and has quickly learned the “watch me” command before she takes a treat. She needs a reminder to be “gentle” as she is given her treat because she previously had the tendency to snatch food from your hand, but she is so clever and now takes food politely. Kenzie can show her uncertainty in new situations by jumping up on her carer for reassurance, however ignoring this behaviour and rewarding her for keeping her four feet on the floor has meant that jumping up on people is now almost a thing of the past. Kenzie would do well with the social and mental stimulation of group obedience lessons if given the opportunity with her new family. Kenzie will bark at strange noises whilst outside however it is generally only when the other dogs are also barking - in a quieter, less chaotic household, it is likely this barking will subside greatly. She is still a puppy and will pick up random goodies off the floor to chew, but she has shown no undesirable behaviour when left at home alone, for example digging holes in the garden or pulling washing off the line.
IDEAL HOMEKenzie is a true friend to all people and would love to be adopted to people who are home a lot of the time. She will need some time to really settle in and bond with her people and truly trust that she is in her forever home at last. Once this has occurred, she will love going on AAALLLLL the adventures with her family - she would make a great running buddy or hiking companion. She would love the opportunity to be able to continue to run wild and free in open spaces so she can regularly indulge in her great love of bird chasing. Kenzie would enjoy an older male canine companion, although she would also relish having all the attention as a single dog. Secure fencing is a must although it doesn’t have to be high - she has been in care with farm fencing and has shown no signs of wanting to escape either by digging under or jumping over.
