Hali is one incredibly special lady, she has made it through the other side at the age of 23 years after being used as a broodmare over and over again until her body pretty much fell apart. On arrival we discovered Hali had had 11 foals in 11 years… yes you read correctly! She had been bred 11 years in a row, no break, and her poor old body showed it.
Hali was malnourished, weak, and with very bad gut health when she arrived, she had very obvious issues with her teeth and struggled to eat much at all. She was dehydrated from constantly having the runs and her back end/tail was absolutely gross. My heart broke for her and what humans had done to such a beautifully mannered and sweet old mare.
Fast forward 6 months and our lovely lady is ready to find her own special home where she can be loved and adored for HER and not for her genetics. Hali is NEVER TO BE USED FOR BREEDING, ever. Not only would it be downright cruel, her body simply cannot breed any longer, if you are here thinking you can breed from her, move along, she is no longer physically capable of getting into foal. Hali also is retired from being ridden so is being rehomed strictly as a companion horse.
Because Hali had been used as a broodmare over and over again, her hormones can get the better of her sometimes, she can be squealy when meeting new horses (which is quite normal) and once when I was doing up her rug clip, she managed to kick me in the leg because she squealed at another horse and happened to be in season! This was NOT a malicious kick at all, it was associated with her being in season, but I want to mention it just so people know she can be sensitive with her back end. I believe that’s quite understandable after all she’s been through. She is otherwise a dream to handle, trim, float and she loves to be pampered (and carrots…)
Hali will need a home that can rug her during winter and ensure she received at least one mashed up hard feed a day to help keep her weight on. She has had 5 teeth removed since being here so she can struggle with chewing up her hay properly. She can happily graze long grass but of course to get all the nutrition she needs she will need those hard feeds.
Preference will be given to applicants who live close to the sanctuary in Kanimbla NSW so
Hali wouldn’t have to travel a long distance at her older age, transport can also be arranged through Elysian Fields Sanctuary if required.
If you think you can offer Hali the perfect forever home, please complete an application, we would love to hear from you! Hali deserves a life of luxury after many, many years of being used and abused.
Please note: Some people have experienced an error with the form not being sent when clicking “submit” if this happens to you please email me at kate@elysianfieldssanctuary.com.au so I can double check it has been received.

Adoption details
After rehabilitation a profile is created of the animal to help find them the perfect match. Applicants can apply via my website using the application form. A house inspection (can be virtual) is required and then a visit can be arranged. If all goes well, horses are placed on a three month lease agreement and once that is completed an official adoption contract can be arranged.
