About Toad
Toad
Is a 10 week old male Staffy x Wolfhound who is looking for a family to love.
His appearance is white Staffy, with the signature black around one eye. He is an energetic young pup who loves spending time with his sister and playing with all of his toys and loves to cuddle on the sofa, sleeping alongside you whilst chilling
Training has begun for toilet, sitting, shake and recall â although he is still very early and would encourage investment/time in puppy training to get the best out of him.
Whilst he looks small and cute, he is around 7kg already and based on his breed we can only assume he will be larger size med at full growth
He has managed well with a small property as he is just a pup, although will need lots of space to play where he can expel his energy. He is dog social as he spends all day with his sister, we have yet to take him out for walks due to his age/vaccination just being done and prefers spending time inside at the moment because of the cold/rainy weather.
His days begin quite early at around 6am where he is taken out for toilet training, depending on weather/cold/rain etc he spends an hour or 2 playing in or outdoors with his sister or with toys. Outdoors he loves to explore and picks around in the garden for anything he can chew on.
He eats around 8am and then has a number of sleeps / plays during the day. Dinner time at 5pm gives him a burst of energy and play for a little bit before unwinding and going to bed.
He is currently sleeping in a Doggy Crate and we bring him out for toilet breaks at 10pm, 12am & 2:30am. These are currently set routines to enable him to recognise to go outside for toilet and returns back to sleep in his crate as soon as his business is done.
He loves spending his time with our teenage daughter and would fit in well in a family environment.
OBEDIENCE
+ Can be well behaved, is food motivated and will sit when waiting for food (or treat)
+ Is starting to learn the Sit/Shake hands command and will do when food is used
+ Is starting to understand that outside is for toilet and generally does what he needs as soon as he is taken outside
+ Sleeps in the house during the night
+ Loves Cuddles / Playing with toys or dogs
- Play with other dogs can become a bit rough and he does have sharp teeth â so children should be monitored when playing/patting
- He sometimes comes when you call him (recall work needed)
- Will need walk training
- When outside will scratch at door to be let in â needs further training
Toad loves our teenage daughter, and have seen no sign of aggression. Although as puppies do, he becomes very excited and may jump/scratch or bite fingers etc
Children should only interact under close adult supervision.
He hasnât shown any interest in going up stairs, although would say due to his inquisitive nature it wouldnât take him long to explore and find ways upstairs
He is sleep friendly â you can comfortably pat him or make noise without any worry that it would startle him.
ENRICHMENT
Toad has lots of energy. Most of his time is running around with his sister, playing with his toys inside or exploring the garden outside.
He is happy to relax at home, although loves to explore the outdoors as well. Time spent in the back yard and when trained, going out for regular walks would be appreciated and will help burn some of that energy.
SLEEPING
He has been sleeping inside (in a doggy crate) and whilst he usually starts to relax at around 8pm, he may have small naps between 8pm and 12am, with small toilet breaks when he starts to become unsettled by making some noise with his yawns. Throughout the day he spends most of his time inside and outside whilst we are working from home. He is well mannered and to help him settle at night he will need his comfort teddies and a soft blanket.
SOCIALISATION
Toad has spent his whole time in care with his siblings. Recently he has spent most of his time with his sister âPrincess Peachâ who shows his affection towards her and loves to wrestle and play with rope toys/ teddies together.
He will need to spend time with older dogs for them to aclimitise to his energetic personality.
Has had no interaction with cats, so am unsure of how he would react.
FOOD
He eats dry food only (puppy food) and we use the same dry food for training/treat rewards. He eats 2x a day and has no problems polishing off his meal
If feeding around other animals, take note as he does like to bully his way and eat their food as well.
He has been on a quality diet of #Savourilfe puppy dry foods
HYGIENE
Toad has had a few baths. He doesnât like the water, although persistence should alleviate the anxious behavior during bath time & have only towel dried him at this stage
TRAVEL/CAR
He travels in a dog carrier at this stage and settles pretty quickly and just relaxes. This will be something that will need to be worked on
IDEAL HOME
We feel Toad would thrive in a loving family home who has time to spend interacting with him and committing to further training to enhance his development. He is an inside dog at the moment, although has spent quite a bit of time outdoors as well and would get used to being outdoors. His family will need to invest time in him and ensure he has daily enrichment and continues to support doggy training in spending more time in social settings.
⢠Dog Friendly but if another dog in residence we are seeking a med to large female with great dog social skills
⢠Children should be supervised at all times and must be mature and dog savvy
⢠Recommend home has a large backyard so he can have lots of room to run around in
⢠Would love other dogs in the family to play and learn from
