About Max
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE.
NAME: Max
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound.
BREED: Greyhound x
BREED TRAITS: Greyhound is a sighthound originally bred for hunting and chasing game and later used for racing. They are even tempered, intelligent, affectionate, very athletic, quiet and gentle. Apart from their grace and speed they are loved for their sweet, mild nature - they are either sprinting or sleeping. They are sensitive to the cold due to having very little body fat and a fine coat. They generally do not like to be left for long hours of the day, have a low tendency to bark, can have a high prey drive and are generally friendly to people and dogs. They have adorable quirks such as rooing, roaching, chattering, leaning and hoarding items in their bed.
ASSETS: Affectionate, intelligent, a little demanding at times, inquisitive, eager to please, outgoing, sweet and playful! Max is a happy dog who is always pleased to see you. He has a ton of love to give to his new family once he settles in with them.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Max loves to play with stuffed toys, especially ones with long legs! He loves squeaky toys and enjoys playing ball games. He'll then curl up with you for a cuddle and snooze!
ENDEARING FEATURES: He's a very good-looking dog and looks a bit like Scooby Doo!
OTHER ANIMALS: Max is a no-nonsense boy who is happy to mingle with a dog or two as long as they generally give him space and are well mannered around him. Our experience is that he prefers females and will not tolerate entire males. He is not really that interested in other dogs and much prefers human company. He's not been tested with cats or small animals so he would need a no-cat/small animal home.
GENERAL INFO: Max is receiving lead training and has come on in leaps and bounds since being in care, this training will need to continue as he is a big strong boy. He is housetrained and uses a doggy door. Max rarely barks but will bark at unfamiliar noises and when someone is at the door. Due to his previous lack of exposure, he can sometimes bark at unknown things when out and about but a quick refocus with a tasty treat soon brings him back into line. Max does not dig and is not destructive. His command training is coming along in leaps and bounds and he's a quick learner so training is a breeze with him. Max is very smart, athletic and has lots of energy so an owner who is interested in dog sports and wants to continue to train would find a great sporting dog in Max.
ESSENTIALS for Max:
** An active, loving home that will involve Max in family activities
** Max's current carer is a full time worker and he is fine with this as long as he gets the exercise and stimulation he needs.
**An owner who will continue to train him and build on the great progress he has made in care - classes for agility or other dog sports would be so great for Max..
** Max needs a large, fenced, secure yard (he can really jump!) with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
** Max loves to be with his family so needs to be allowed inside the home and to sleep inside at night.
**Max would need to be the only pet in the home.
Max isn't always aware of his size and strength so we would prefer a home with dog-savvy, gentle children over 12yrs only.
If Max sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
