What can we say about our beloved Novak except that he’s a total puppy! Novak is a ball of energy and is always up for a game with some squeaky toys or a jog/walk out and about. Novak arrived at the sanctuary absolutely terrified of his own shadow and it took nearly 3 weeks before he was comfortable to come inside the house and tackle those slippery floors. He can quickly shutdown if you try to force him to do something (ie, pull on his collar etc) but with some gentle encouragement, treats and a cheerful voice he will do everything he possibly can to overcome his fears and trust you.
Novak has been living with an indoor kitty cat in his foster home and has showed very little interest in her, his interest was mostly confusion but as soon as kitty cat gave him a hiss he was out of there! Novak hasn’t been tested with cats outdoors and care would still need to be taken if he was to meet a cat out and about. Outdoor cats are always that little bit more exciting than an indoor cat.
Ideally, we can find Novak a home with another dog as he can get separation anxiety when left without a friend, he bonds really quickly to his canine buddies and often tries to sleep in the same bed as them!
Novak has met other breeds of dogs and has been a perfect gentleman around them, he is very polite and tends to do well giving other dogs space. He hasn’t been tested offleash with itty bitty doggos (which we don’t recommend until any hound has gotten to know their new people anyway) but has so far been fine with all other dog types.
Due to his goofy and high energy nature, Novak is going to need someone who can handle a big chonky playful greyhound who at the start of a walk can pull a little until he wears off a little steam.
He is quite an active boy who will need multiple walks a day, he would be best suited to almost any housing situation but preferably somewhere with a yard/outdoor area where he can have a good run and play. Novak LOVES his toys and will happily play zoomies, sharkies and spinnies with his human when the opportunity arises. Of course, he will need to be kept on leash at all times while he adjusts to his new life, a muzzle will be provided to his new adoptive family for when he is out and about during the transition period.
If you’re looking for a greyhound that will glue himself to you and become your absolute best friend this is your guy. A home where his humans are home most of the time is going to be preferable as he does get separation anxiety when left alone, unless he has other doggo friends to keep him company. Novak may take a bit of time to bond with his new family, but once he has you in his heart he will do absolutely anything for you. I love this boy a lot and his future forever family are going to be the luckiest people in the world to have this genuinely loving young goofball in their family.
If you think you can give Novak the most perfect of homes please complete an application form, Novak is truly a delight to have around, he just wants to be loved and have a family to call his very own.
Please note: Some people have experienced an error with the form not being sent when clicking “submit” if this happens to you please email me at kate@elysianfieldssanctuary.com.au so I can double check it has been received.
Adoption details
After rehabilitation a profile is created of the animal to help find them the perfect match. Applicants can apply via my website using the application form. A house inspection (can be virtual) is required and then a visit can be arranged. If all goes well a two week trial in their new home begins, after completion of the two weeks the adoption will be finalised.
