Introducing - The Amazing Arf!

Arf is a gorgeous young girl who acts a lot older than her 8 months. We have had quite the
adventure getting to know this pup. Arf came in as a bucket of nerves who would shy away
from people, sounds and movement. She had a high flight response and it took a little while
for the trust to come.

Arf has conquered so many things since being in care.
● Will enter and exit the car on her own unassisted
● Will walk on a lead, however, her nose is still the boss and she follows that. We have
been working on a short lead and she is good at sticking to your pace, she rarely
pulls unless she sees another dog.
● Will approach people and have a sniff, sometimes she will allow pats, sometimes she
will walk away.
● Will always play with other dogs and has a keen interest in all dogs. Arf will listen to
their cues - if they don’t want to interact she is good at walking away.
● Will alert you to visitors - this has only been happening recently and Arf can be called
back from barking when she thinks there is someone at the door.
● Will find you. Arf has recently started her hobby as a houdini and escape artist.
Believe me when I tell you this is not condoned and we are using all weird and
reasonable methods to stop this behaviour. Including but not limited to tying balloons
on the fence to deter the jumping - slow incremental alone times outdoors - lick mat
and distracting toys for some separation. These methods are working well.

What Arf will need to continue her adventures:
● A resident dog would be the best outcome as Arf is her best self around another
hound. If you don’t have a resident dog but have dogs that Arf would interact with
regularly this would also be considered.
● Understanding that she will sometimes just want to hide for a minute. Arf’s flight
response is triggered with any sudden noises like slamming doors - her current
house is a bit older and creaky in the wind. Arf will mostly put up with the windows
shaking but if the back door bangs she will hide.
● Arf will need a social life! She has been coming to the “local” which has allowed her
to get comfortable around strangers, now, she wants to be included in everything.
She can be a bit timid the first time you do an activity but she will quickly come round.
Arf has attended a workplace a few times, the first time she was a bit up and down,
the following attendances she sleeps on her mat and waits for tea breaks for a walk.
● Arf will require a space to zoom. This is a new hobby that we completely support! Arf
has found that toys (ropes and sticks mainly) are the best things to throw around the
yard and also running real fast around the perimeter is the best game ever!
● Arf will require her own space for retreat - we have a crate set up for her here and
she sleeps in there each night and will take herself off to the crate if there are guests
here and she has had enough.

Arf is a beautiful girl, her temperament is patient and kind with a touch of playfulness and
cheek. Everything that we have pushed her to do she has done and excelled at, we have
been able to bring this young pup out of her shell and it will continue to get better as she
finds her place in her forever home. This is one special pup and she is now confident
