About Millie - 9 Year Old Greyhound (On Hold)
Meet Millie the gorgeous 9-year-old female greyhound.
Millie loves nothing more than her daily walks, playtime with her toys and lounge cuddles.
Millie is very much a lady with her food. Millie showed some resource guarding during her first few weeks of foster care but now eats comfortably in the same room with 2 other Greyhounds. Millie will wait patiently for her turn when treats are being given although supervision when eating high value treats such as meaty bones is still recommended. Millie is fed breakfast at 8am and dinner at 5.30pm although she has been flexible and patient when her food has been early or late. Millie likes to relax and take a nap after she has been fed.
Millie absolutely loves her outings whether that be car rides, walks, the beach or dog friendly events and businesses. Millie would love a person, couple or family who will make her a part of their adventures and outings. Millie becomes excited when the leads come out. She will bounce around enthusiastically in anticipation of her outing. Mille can pull on the lead at the beginning of walks but calms down a few minutes into walking. Millie walks straight on the leash with minimal sniffing breaks. Millie is more interested in her walk continuing rather than saying hello to other dogs and their owners walking past. Millie currently gets walked for 20-30 minutes daily.
Millie has shown no interest in other dogs during her visits to the dog beach; preferring pats from the humans and walking in the shallow part of the water. Millie must be kept on the leash during her outings as cats, birds and rabbits are too enticing not to chase.
If Millie hasn’t received a walk or outing or has some energy leftover; she loves playing with her fluffy, squeaky, and crinkly toys. At home Millie shares a toy box full of toys with 2 other Greyhounds. Millie will take a toy and prance off to her bed to play with it alone. Millie shows no interest in doing “zoomies” in the back yard. A quick play session by herself or with her carers is her preference.
Millie is toilet trained. Millie stands at the back door when she needs to use the back yard. This can be for toilet time, exploring and sniffing in the yard or sunbaking on her outdoor dog bed. When Millie is enjoying her yard time, she can have selective hearing when her name is called and may require coaxing to come back inside. Millie is inquisitive to noises like loud bangs and fireworks and will want to investigate further by running to where she thinks the noise came from. Millie has run out into the yard and checked the fences when she has heard a loud noise from the neighbours. Millie only barks if she sees a cat or rabbit pass by.
Millie prefers to sleep close by to her carers. Millie sleeps on a dog bed in the loungeroom with 2 other Greyhounds throughout the night. Her carers leave their bedroom door open with the baby gate closed so she can see someone’s home and happily retire to her bed.
Millie has been known to have vivid dreams and will twitch and make cute noises in her sleep. This can lead to some slight sleep startle if another dog walks by and wakes her up in a confused state.
If allowed, Millie loves to sleep on the carers lounge or bed. Millie likes to sleep next to her carer on the lounge with her head in their lap.
Millie loves her “bum pats”. She will reverse her bottom into everyone’s legs until someone gives in and gives her the booty rubs. She also doesn’t mind a good ear rub after she has gotten to know you well.
Millie can be left home alone but would prefer someone home often. Millie usually cries for a few minutes when left at home but then decides to go for a sleep until her carers return. Millie has shown no destructive behaviours but does stress if left in too small of a room or area of the house.
Millie needs to be an inside dog with access to a back yard. Millie is happy to live with other dogs’ medium to large and has lived with various breeds.
Millie would be just as happy to be a single pet provided, she is given plenty of love and attention.
Millie’s home must have no pocket pets, birds, or cats.
Millie is untested with small/young children but would have no issues with older children around 10+ years old.
