About Buddy Boy
Buddy Boy is now seeking his forever home
This gorgeous boy is a Coonhound x Harrier with heaps of love and fun but certainly needs an experienced home to ensure he is trained to be the best boy as he matures
Buddy is a very affectionate puppy who thinks he is a lap dog. He’s also very social, wanting to say hello to every person he meets and play with every dog. He’s one of the sweetest and most trainable pups I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. He would suit a home that will allow him to spend time inside with his family and where he can get loads of hugs and pets.
Food
He’s a bit of a guts and will over indulge if you aren’t too careful. He is currently eating 2 cups of dry puppy food a day currently and is not in the slightest bit fussy. He will literally eat anything you give him!
Being a hound, he will sniff out food on his walks and is trying to eat random bits of rubbish he finds, so you will need to be aware of what is lying around out on walks and what you have out at home.
Toileting
Buddy came to us with no toilet training, but has slowly been picking up on the training. He is now using the designed toilet zones in the house (drop sheets with puppy training pads on them) and taken outside regularly to encourage going outside. While he is getting better he will need some ongoing training in this space.
Commands/training
He is one very smart hound and extremely receptive to training - especially when treats are involved. He has learnt to sit and can stay for short periods of time. He will now wait for his food to be served before he jumps into it.
He has only just begun his training and will need ongoing training to get the best out of him.
He is, also, currently starting to find his voice but will quiet down when told.
He isn’t a fan of bath time and unless someone sits next to him in the back seat of a car he will bark throughout the trip - with some training I think he will come to enjoy car rides.
Size
We expect Buddy to be a fairly big boy when he grows and has a tendency to jump when over excited, so please keep this in mind when considering him as your furever home.
Bedtime
Buddy is currently going to bed at approximately 9:30-10pm and sleeps through the night until approx 6-7am depending on his foster mum's schedule.
He is currently sleeping in a crate in the laundry - with the crate door left open, as he does get up a few times to go to the toilet throughout the night (something we’re working on).
Exercise/games
Being a puppy, he has a lot of energy and currently gets a 1 hour walk each day. He likes to sniff everything and we encourage allowing him the opportunity to sniff and learn new things 🥰.
Toys are a must and he loves a good squeaky toy! He likes to have a lot of options as he will bore with one toy, move onto the next and then eventually circle back to the original toy again. Toys that promote stimulation will keep him occupied longer.
People
I’d like to say Buddy is loyal, but I think if given the opportunity he would happy be led away by a complete stranger if they paid him any attention 🤣🤦🏻♀️. He loves meeting lots of new people.
Other animals
He has given some indications that he would chase birds and cats if given the chance, so I don’t think he would be suitable in a home with other animals.
However, he is very social and loves to play with other dogs so we’d love to find Buddy a home with another dog he can continue to learn from and play with - or at least a commitment to visiting dog parks where he can have the opportunity to play with other dogs.
Adoption requirements
Because he likes to jump around when over excited I would not recommend a home with small children. Teens will be ok though!
He is going to be a big boy with a fair amount of energy so a home that can keep him well exercised and stimulated is the home we seek
A home with other dog would be great and we would be seeking a female of med to large size
Buddy will suit a home that has someone home a few days throughout the week. I’m saying this, he has been able to keep himself occupied for up to 10 hours a couple days a week while his foster mum has been at work and hasn’t destroyed anything in the house or yard 😅.
