About Kingston
Are you missing a squishy, roly poly, handsome hunka spunk in your life? Then Kingston might be the best mate you’ve been searching for!
This boy is a typical bulldog and all that comes with it. He is extremely affectionate and loves nothing more than a cuddle and has little idea of personal space. His favourite thing to do in the evening is to plonk himself down on your lap and enjoy some couch snuggles and watch tv. During the day he enjoys lying in the sun in the garden, lazing about or having a good play.
He is generally a slower paced kinda dog, but when he’s excited he gets a bit over the top and needs to be reminded to calm down. He is currently living with a young baby and is good with the baby and lies down for pats with children out and about, but is a bit of a bulldozer sometimes and due to this, we believe it is best he is rehomed to an adult only home or one with older kids who can handle his bull in a China shop type attitude !
Although Kingston is a beautiful teddy bear, he does need some work in some areas and will need an experienced owner preferably with bulldog experience who understands their temperaments. He is dog social and has never fought or bitten another dog, but he does get very OTT and needs slow introductions and management while playing due to his intense play style. He is not suited to off leash areas and likely will only ever be able to interact with known dogs you build a relationship up with, he just gets too much, doesn’t read other dogs signals to stop and throws his weight around other dogs which isn’t polite. He is currently living with a French bulldog and although they get on well, he just doesn’t have an off switch when they play so we will be looking to rehome him as an only dog so his owners can work on teaching him this off switch.
His new owners need to be prepared to put in more work with his leash work and socialisation. He gets very over aroused on occasions when seeing other dogs if he can’t say hello and can bark and carry on- being a big dog this needs to be addressed. Due to this, we believe living in the inner city or high traffic dog areas would be too much for him and his new owners. A suburban or rural area where Kingston has a back yard to lie in and access to quieter areas for walks would be perfect.
Kingston is definitely a show stopper and loves lapping up any attention he can get. He enjoys beach visits and playing in the shallow waters (he cannot swim due to his body type). He enjoys walks through the park and loves toys - kongs, tug of war and fetch are his favourite! His training is well on its way and he knows basic commands like “sit”, “stop” “wee wees” (toilet), “leave it”, “go to bed” and “wait”. He is toilet trained and sleeps through the night. He travels really well in the car and loves going out and about with his people.
Kingston is also working on his sensitivity to noises and funny objects. He can startle easily to things like witches cones, sirens, brooms etc. He will bark if he is unsure, but usually ends up going to investigate and then is happy
to carry on his day. He is happy to be at home with enrichment toys and access to inside and outside; but due to him going from having another dog for company to an only dog, it is important he has someone home for company during the days. He is not destructive and he finds comfort in a soft elephant toy he brought her with him from his breeders which he still suckles if he needs to calm down. He must also go with this toy as it brings him great comfort.
Unfortunately, Kingston was born with mild hip dysplasia. He is currently on a weight loss plan which his new owners will need to be committed to continuing as the leaner he is the better for his hips. He is managed with monthly pentosan injections ($45) and joint supplements (antinol) which have given him great results! His new owners must be in a financial position to continue these supplements. He gets around just fine and as long as he is exercised appropriately this will be well managed.
To sum Kingston up - he is a lot of dog ! A lot of love and affection, but also a lot of training needs to be continued to ensure he is the best canine citizen he can be. For the right home he is going to make the most amazing best friend who will be like owning your own real life teddy bear and give you endless laughs and entertainment. If you are ready to welcome a bulldozer into your life and have the time and means to put into his training in areas like sociability and calmness then Kingston might be the boy of your dreams.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
