About Lucy π Silky Terrier (On trial 17/7/22)
Lucy is a very sweet and beautiful 13yo, Australian Silky Terrier. πΆ She wags her tail when you talk to her and greets you with loads of happiness when you come home. She likes to know where you are and will follow you if you leave the room but doesnβt need to be on top of you all the time. She does like her lap time though and can jump up onto the sofa for a snuggle or a snack.
Lucy is undemanding and very easy to look after. She would be perfect for a retired person looking for a happy little companion to brighten their days and keep them company. Lucyβs bark is very soft and she doesnβt require a lot of space so she would be fine in an apartment.
She walks very nicely on a harness and lead and appreciates a walk around the block so she can do lots of sniffing. She sleeps all night in her dog bed, snoring softly. She is partially house trained and will use puppy pads if you donβt let her out regularly.
Lucy is used to living with other dogs but she mostly ignores them. She would be fine as an only dog if someone is home all the time, but when you go out she gets comfort from being with another dog.
Lucy hasnβt been tested with cats but sheβs very easy-going so I think sheβd be fine. She pays little attention to chicken in their backyard hutch. π She is very good in the car. She just goes to sleep on the back seat.
She loves her food and isnβt fussy. Tinned food makes her itchy so she does best on a homemade diet (cooked mince or chopped meat and veggies). She sits as soon as you offer her a treat. So cute!
Lucy is looking for a new home because her elderly owner died. Small dogs like Lucy typically live to around 16 years old so Lucy still has plenty of time and love to give her new family. π
βοΈHer health is very good for her age. She has reduced hearing, as expected, and can only hear loud sounds. She has some cataracts but it doesn't seem to affect her. She gets around very well. She can quickly see and grab any treat you throw to her. She moves around with ease, goes up and down stairs and can jump onto the sofa.
π Her best feature is her stunning coat which is very soft and silky with silver tips. She has upright ears with feathery fur on them. She has a low shedding coat so needs regular brushing, grooming and nail clipping. She is small, only around 5 kgs.
πΊ Due to Lucyβs small size she isn't suitable to a busy household with children under 16. Sheβs fine with small visitors as long as they are old enough to be very gentle and calm around her and don't try to pick her up.
β We are looking for a forever home for Lucy where there is someone home a lot; someone to feed her a healthy diet, take her for a short walk most days, and let her sit with them and be her very best friend.
Lucy is in foster care in Mount Hutton, NSW (Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle). She is available for adoption within NSW and ACT. Her adoption fee is $400 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas, worms, vet checked, microchipped and registered.
