About Mikey
Magic Mike ✨or Mikey (as he is commonly known) is an exceptional cat.
Why is he exceptional? Because he is an adult cat who has lived his entire life on the street and after only a few months into being rescued he loves his carer, he loves his pats and belly rubs and he now trusts people. He is an exception because after 6 years of rescuing street cats I can honestly say, some cats just don’t want anything to do with us, and why should they?
Why has Mike decided to trust and love when he is from our massive colony in Western Sydney where his family members and friends have been poisoned and left to die? And my only answer is that he is exceptional.
Mike was accidently rescued, I set my trap hoping to rescue a pregnant cat but in walked Mike, a large tom who was so scared he was frothing at the mouth. I took him home and left him alone for hours to recover because he was so terrified of me he was hyperventilating.
He spent the first few weeks hiding underneath his blankets, I could pat him because he was in shock but when he came out of shock he was angry, he found himself trapped in a cage without his family and friends. But never in the entire time I’ve looked after Mike has he ever bitten, scratched or raised a paw because even in his anger he is the gentlest cat you could ever know.
I then started hand feeding Mike and once he ate from my hand, I started patting him and this quickly progressed to Mike shocking me with the loudest purr I have ever heard in my life! Mike just adores attention and demands his daily belly rubs and insists on pushing his head into my belly and rubbing against me.
If Mike had been trapped by a council or by a pound he would have only been given 2 to 5 days to prove he was friendly before being euthanised, this is why independent rescues like ours are so essential – we give cats a chance and believe me the world would have missed out if Mike wasn’t given one.
Mike is looking for a carer to help him get to the next stage in his socialisation so that he can be adopted. Once he has a new carer this will free up a space to rescue another one of his family members so they can be safe too.
Check out his video in the comments to hear the purr!
