About Billy
I’m a sweet elderly gentleman who has had an incredibly rough start to life and I’m now finally ready to move forward with the best part of my new life.
I’ve been in foster care for the past 5 months, recovering from both physical and mental injuries. I arrived at Lort Smith with a large burn on my face, I was itchy and covered in fleas and I was completely shut down. A CT scan also revealed that sadly at some point in my life I had also been shot as there is a bullet left behind in my throat.
I try not to dwell too much on my past as since I’ve been in care I’ve now learnt that life can be really great! I’ve learnt that humans give good cuddles, they provide delicious food and warm beds. It’s taken me some time to learn to trust people but with some gentle encouragement I have improved greatly.
Now there’s a few boxes you will need to tick to be considered as my new forever family as you see I’m a very special boy and my care team only want the very best for me and for me to be as comfortable as possible.
I’m seeking a quiet, relaxed home, I’m not much of a party boy, I enjoy the quiet way of life. I’m quite fearful of men, so a female dominant household would be the most ideal for me. I would also prefer to not live with any children please. My new family must let me live indoors and be included as part of the family.
I can either live as an only dog or with a quiet senior female dog of similar quiet nature as me. I don’t really like excitable, enthusiastic dogs, I would prefer a polite friend who lets me initiate interactions at my own pace. I’m also fine with cats!
My new family will need to very, very patient with me. I will likely regress and become fearful whilst I learn to live with my new family. I will require ongoing confidence building and gentle encouragement to come out of my shell. I promise once I’m comfortable you will get to see my cheeky, playful personality!
I enjoy getting out for walks. I can’t walk very far and I’ve only just mastered how to walk on a leash, but I do love getting out and having a sniff. I also like to ride in the pet stroller when I get too tired to walk. I’ll never be a dog that can run off leash as it’s highly possible I will take off if I’m startled. I’m still a very nervous boy when I’m in unfamiliar environments but I gain confidence with every outing.
I will require on-going medical management for my arthritis including daily supplements and regular vet check ups. I’m also on some anti anxiety supplements to help keep me feel as stress free as possible. My foster mum will go through all my medical needs with you.
I will be foster to adopt to ensure I’m settling in well to my new home. I also require some dental work that will be covered by Lort Smith, my new family will be required to take me to this appointment.
If you have a very quiet home and are willing to go really slow with me while I learn to adjust to my new family and home, please fill out an expression of interest form with as much detail as possible about your lifestyle!
